Director of Engineering

Job Overview :

As the Director of Engineering, you will be responsible for the daily operation of the engineering department. This role is essential in ensuring that all physical assets, systems, and equipment operate properly, to provide an exceptional experience for our guests and ensure the safety of all individuals while on property.

Key Responsibilities :

• Lead the engineering team by assigning and monitoring daily projects.
• Thoroughly review the Request for Proposal (RFP) or Invitation to Bid (ITB) to understand project scope, deliverables, timelines, and evaluation criteria.
• Conduct walk-throughs and assess the safe and efficient maintenance and operation of the physical structure of the hotel including all mechanical, electrical, HVAC systems, and any other related equipment.
• Respond quickly to emergency mechanical / other building situations.
• Track and manage room maintenance projects.
• Manage the purchase of parts and equipment through purchase orders.
• Collaborate and manage with third parties for equipment maintenance and installations.
• Ability to manage multiple service vendors, contracts, ensuring their work is performed to the highest standards.
• Troubleshoot and repair kitchen equipment.
• Collaborate with hotel leadership to obtain and present cost-effective proposals for maintaining and repairing all systems throughout the hotel.
• Maintain a guest-focused perspective at all times, ensuring positive guest interactions.
• Create weekly departmental schedules, track vacation / sick requests for team members.
• Complete weekly departmental payroll.
• Understand the collective bargaining agreement and maintain positive employee relations.
• Be familiar with DC Building Regulations : Fire Code, Fire Alarm Inspection, Backflow, Elevator Inspections, DC Health Department, etc.
• Maintain the building exterior and “curb appeal” of the entire hotel grounds.
