PURPOSE:
The Mishkon Division provides supports and services in a healthy and safe environment for individuals with intellectual/ developmental disabilities living in residential programs and in community settings. POSITION OVERVIEW:
The Deputy Director of Nursing is responsible for overseeing, administering, and coordinating all daily operations of the Nursing Department, ensuring adherence to agency policies and OPWDD guidelines. This leadership role includes providing direct supervision to the nursing staff, including RN Case Managers, Registered Nurses, Triage Nurses, and LPNs within the Intellectual/Developmental Disabilities (IDD) Program.
In collaboration with IDD leadership and the agency’s Chief Nursing Officer, the Director of Nursing will work to ensure high-quality care across all programs. As a member of the Senior Leadership Team at Jewish Board, you will play a pivotal role in driving a culture of excellence in patient care, promoting innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement. Your leadership will be instrumental in guiding the nursing team through cultural transformation, ensuring alignment with the organization's strategic goals and values while fostering an environment that supports growth and engagement.
KEY ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
The Deputy Director of Nursing Services is responsible to coordinate, organize, implement, evaluate and direct the nursing services department in accordance with current rules and regulations as promulgated by OPWDD, JBFCS and other applicable regulators and payer’s.
Develop and maintain methods for coordinating nursing services with other program services to ensure continuity of the resident’s total regimen of care.
Determine and monitor the staffing needs of the nursing department to ensure the appropriate assignment and census of nursing staff.
Oversee the interviewing and selection of nursing staff, related service providers, and independent contractors in collaboration with HR and the nursing leadership team.
Lead and mentor nursing staff, providing professional development to enhance leadership, cultural competency, and engagement in change. Set metrics to track progress and adjust strategies to ensure lasting improvements in patient care and team performance.
Promote a culture of accountability, excellence, and continuous improvement by encouraging innovative approaches to patient care, fostering collaboration across teams, and driving engagement with evidence-based practices.
Serve as a strategic change agent, driving cultural transformation within the nursing department. Lead efforts to evolve nursing practices, improve patient care outcomes, and enhance the overall patient and staff experience.
Develop, implement and conduct in-service training programs for the nursing department that promotes professional development and enhancement.
Ensure that medical and nursing care is administered in accordance with the resident’s individualized program plan
Directly supervise two Directors of Nursing.
Assist in planning for resident admissions and discharges.
Ensure that all IDD nurses are supported, receive weekly documented supervision as well as annual written performance evaluations.
Review annually, at a minimum, all nursing services policies and procedures.
In coordination with the Executive Program Director, prepare, plan and adhere to the nursing services budget.
Oversee inventory management of medications and medical supplies to ensure adequate stock to meet the residents care needs.
Provide education and in-service training to program staff according program need and regulatory requirements.
Participate in facility surveys made by authorized government agencies, as necessary or as directed.
Maintain a cooperative and productive relationship with program leadership to ensure follow up and resolution to all identified issues.
Develop action plans for systems issues and quality indicators as identified by the Department of Quality Improvement as well as program regulators and payers.
Collect, review and analyze clinical outcome data in EHR and Tableau Dashboards and determine trends.
In collaboration with the QI department, provide reports of clinical outcome findings.
Participate in the QI activities in developing and implementing appropriate plans of action to correct identified deficiencies.
Participate in and attend various Program committees as designated by the Executive Program Director.
Maintain confidentiality of all resident care information.
Ensures that residents are treated with dignity and respect and resident rights are maintained.
Maintain a liaison with the residents, their families and support departments to adequately plan for the resident’s needs.

EDUCATIONAL / TRAINING REQUIREMENTS:
Active, unrestricted New York State license as a Registered Professional Nurse. Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 10 years’ appropriate clinical background and progressive management experience.
Must have knowledge of OPWDD and DOH regulatory requirements
COMPUTER SKILLS REQUIRED:
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
VISUAL AND MANUAL DEXTERITY:
The candidate should be able to read documents for analytical purposes such as health charts, spreadsheets, etc.
Possess the manual dexterity necessary for handling medical equipment, administering medications, and performing clinical procedures.
WORK ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL EFFORT
Ability to walk, sit, stand, and bend as necessary to assess and provide care to clients effectively in various settings.
Must be capable of responding swiftly to emergencies, which may involve moving quickly to the scene, performing CPR, and utilizing appropriate emergency protocols.
Proficient in lifting, transferring, and repositioning clients safely when needed, ensuring the comfort and safety of both clients and staff.
Maintain the physical stamina to perform nursing duties throughout the shift, including prolonged periods of standing and walking, while remaining attentive to patient needs.
Ability to navigate a variety of environments, including tight spaces, while maintaining a focus on patient care and safety.
