PURPOSE:
The Jewish Board’s Marketing & Communications Department creates a positive public perception of our agency’s mental health and social service programs with a broad audience of stakeholders – including current and potential clients, client referral sources, donors, employees, volunteers, and the media – to help New Yorkers of all ages and backgrounds get the support and care they need.
POSITION OVERVIEW:
The Jewish Services Marketing Specialist will work to educate and activate prospective and current clients across the different groups of the Jewish community by marketing our services geared to Jewish people. A particular focus will be on growing the audience of Here Now, an online and in-person resource that raises mental health awareness among Jewish teens, with both the teens and their parents.
The Specialist role is about more than just marketing—it’s about connecting people with critical support, uplifting communities, and making a real difference in their lives. Working directly with our Jewish Services program and the Marketing team, the Specialist will develop strategic written and visual marketing content for Here Now and other key programs that fall under our Jewish Services division. The Specialist will be instrumental to implementing those campaigns, reporting on the outcomes, and providing ongoing insights into how to strengthen their effectiveness.
The successful candidate will have a strong interest in the mental health field, an understanding of the different types of Jewish faith and culture across New York City, and a solid grasp of digital and traditional marketing techniques to effectively position our programs to their target audiences.
KEY ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Promote the Here Now program, an online and in-person resource that raises mental health awareness among Jewish teens, by developing holistic marketing strategies that reach Jewish teens and/or parents, teachers, and other adults connected to these teens
Develop effective print and digital marketing collateral, event collateral, and PR outreach that together communicate the various services we offer to the Jewish community, such as support groups, workshops, and training sessions
Take the lead in identifying the most effective platforms for promoting our Jewish services, including local Jewish media
Track engagement, analyze what’s working (and what’s not), and refine strategies to ensure our services are reaching our target audience
Maintain Jewish communal program-facing content across The Jewish Board’s digital properties, including the external-facing website and our internal-facing intranet platform, ensuring that program pages are always up-to-date and relevant for their audiences
Create newsletters by editing, formatting, and sending updates that keep the community informed
Support key Marketing department initiatives, as needed
Contribute to an overall Marketing editorial calendar that covers awareness days/weeks/months, holidays, and other events that can be used to create content that connects the communities we serve to The Jewish Board’s mission
Brainstorm creative swag items and assist in ordering giveaways that help spread awareness and build program recognition
Monitor social media channels for messages, inquiries, and comments and direct these messages to the appropriate program staff
CORE COMPETENCIES for the position include:
Familiarity with marketing landscape for Jewish audiences
An understanding of the various types of Jewish identity, faith, and culture, and the nuances of the different Jewish communities, including those who are unaffiliated
Experience with the major social media platforms (Instagram, Facebook, TikTok,Reddit, BlueSky, and Snapchat), including creating posts, stories, short videos, etc.
Proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop, and Premiere) and WordPress
Well-developed writing and editing skills
Ability to manage independent contractors (such as videographers and copywriters)
An interest in learning and adapting to new systems and platforms that can improve our ability to reach department goals
The capacity to work on multiple projects with set deadlines with the ability to shift priorities.
Being comfortable working with individuals who may have faced traumatic experiences
An understanding of the importance platforming a range of voices and views has on both the communities The Jewish Board serves and its staff
A sensitivity to the impact that the language we use has on both the communities The Jewish Board serves and its staff
The ability to speak additional languages is a plus
EDUCATIONAL/TRAINING REQUIRED:
Bachelor's degree in marketing, art/graphic design, visual communications, or a related field
EXPERIENCE REQUIRED/LANGUAGE PREFERENCE:
One to four years of experience in producing marketing materials
COMPUTER SKILLS REQUIRED:
Proficiency using Microsoft Office suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)
Ability and willingness to learn new systems and application software
Proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop, and Premiere) and WordPress
VISUAL AND MANUAL DEXIERITY:
• Manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination to use computer
WORK ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL EFFORT
Manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination to work independently with files, copier/scanners and other standard office equipment
Perform the essential function of this position, routinely required to sit for prolonged periods (85%) at a desk working on a computer, and to stand at times (15%)
