What are the responsibilities and job description for the Group Fitness Supervisor position at The Jewish Federation of Southern New Jersey?
Works with the Fitness Director in the coordination and supervision of all Group Exercise classes at the Katz JCC. Also works in coordination with the Fitness Operations Manager in building and developing small group training programs. This position will help develop and oversee all aspects of the Group Exercise and Small Group fitness classes at the Katz JCC. Assist with on-going promotion of the classes ensuring the maximum quality of the program and supervise staff of group exercise instructors.
Job Responsibilities:
- In conjunction with the Fitness Director, help maintain professional instruction for the Group Exercise program. Ensure high quality of instructors (maintain a variety of instructors to help accommodate personal tastes) and help to maintain a professional atmosphere among all instructors.
- In conjunction with the Fitness Director, maintain a safe, comfortable atmosphere in all the group exercise studios for members and guests. Report on unclean conditions, safety hazards and malfunctioning equipment.
- Maintain records and statistics with respect to the Group exercise classes, to ensure rosters and class attendance are current and accurate.
- Assist in the creation and implementation of marketing strategies for current and new Group Exercise classes and special events. Outreach to the community and share marketing resources.
- In coordination with the Fitness Operations Manager, develop and market small group training programs and classes.
- Maintain required certifications for CPR, AED, and Group Exercise Instructor certifications and attend local conferences/workshops where applicable.
- As a professional representative of the agency, maintain proper relationships with public and private agencies for the purpose of developing inter-agency programs.
- Develop new innovative Group exercise classes and special events.
- Coordinate Group Exercise staff meetings/trainings and development.
- Recruit, train, and schedule new certified instructors for various exercise classes in the program
- Maintain ongoing communication with members and participants in Group Exercise studios-high level of customer service.
- Understand and be able to administer emergency procedures (fire alarm, evacuations, injuries, etc.)
- Maintain a high level of professionalism as JCC Fitness Staff Personnel.
- Instruct a minimum of 4-5 group exercise and 1-2 small group training classes per week and provide substitute instructors when needed.
- Coordinate and develop the group exercise class schedule on a monthly or quarterly basis.
- Run reports and track registrations in Group Ex Pro.
- Assist the fitness director with payroll.
- Work at minimum one night a week to check in with staff that teach at night.
- Additional responsibilities may be added periodically based upon the needs of the Fitness and Wellness department of the Katz JCC.
Expectations:
- Always present a professional demeanor when representing the Katz JCC.
- Develop and build a team atmosphere among Group Exercise instructors.
- Provide input in developing strategies to support departmental goals and objectives.
- Recommend staff development/educational activities
- Influence and motivate other staff members to perform at their maximum capacity.
- Ability to respond appropriately to inquiries or questions from the JCC members and guests.
