What are the responsibilities and job description for the Part-Time Dance Instructor position at The John Carroll School?
The John Carroll School seeks a qualified, part-time Dance Instructor for the 2025-2026 school year as part of the College Preparatory Dance Program. Candidate would potentially teach one section of Ballet, Modern and/or Contemporary Dance (approx. two hours a week). Candidate would also be called upon for potential subbing duties in the program.
The successful candidate will be expected to provide continuity by facilitating success and growth in students' academic and interpersonal skills through instruction. It is important to create a safe and optimal learning environment in which student progress is documented, individual student needs are addressed, and effective communication with students, parents, administration, faculty, and staff thrives. As a representative of The John Carroll School, the employee is expected to support and carry out the School’s Catholic mission.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Attend two in-person, full dance faculty meetings (August prior to school year and one second semester)
- Instruct academic dance technique courses for college-prep level dancers
- Choreograph, as needed
- Must be available on weekdays between 3:00–5:00 p.m. (flexible as to which day)
- Promote Dance at The John Carroll School in the community
- Record students’ grade for daily performance in class assigned and/or subbing
- Promote safety within all aspects of the program
- Provide instruction that upholds the values and ideals of the Catholic Church and is in alignment with the mission of The John Carroll School
- Be committed to self-improvement and professional development
- Demonstrated interest in developing a thriving dance program in a high school setting
- Willingness to be a substitute for current dance faculty, as needed
- Instill and promote the positive culture and foundational values of the John Carroll School Dance Program

- Demonstrated success in teaching at the high school level
- Knowledge of all aspects of the skills involved with training a dancer
- Excellent communication and active listening skills; punctuality
- Ability to relate and work with diverse groups
- Bachelor's Degree and/or adequate professional dance experience
Hourly pay rate is commensurate with experience
