Assistant Director of Admissions

We are seeking an Assistant Director of Admissions, reporting to the Director of Admissions, plays a key role in recruiting and enrolling graduate students across Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS) campuses in Washington, D.C., Bologna, Italy, and Nanjing, China. This position manages prospective student and applicant records using the Slate Technolutions CRM system and supports data operations critical to enrollment success. The Assistant Director collaborates with internal teams and external stakeholders to meet SAIS’s graduate enrollment and revenue goals.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities

Recruitment and Outreach (40%)

  • Build and maintain relationships with peer institutions, professional organizations, and key stakeholders; serve on relevant committees.
  • Represent SAIS at national and international recruitment fairs and conferences, requiring travel and occasional evening/weekend availability.
  • Provide admissions guidance and information to prospective students through various communication channels.
  • Assist in planning and logistics for recruitment events, ensuring all resources and materials are available and organized.
  • Support diversity recruitment events and initiatives to engage historically underrepresented communities.
  • Plan, host, and present virtual information sessions, focusing on prospects from underrepresented regions globally and in the U.S.


Application Review and Records Management (30%)

  • Review and evaluate master’s program applications during early and regular decision cycles.
  • Process application materials to ensure all required documents are submitted on time and are accurately reflected in the Slate CRM system.
  • Ensure the accuracy and completeness of applicant records, proactively following up with students to resolve missing or incomplete information.
  • Analyze application trends and data to identify potential improvements in the review process or applicant communications.
  • Assist with implementing updates to the Slate CRM system, ensuring records management processes are aligned with best practices and organizational needs.


Integrated Communications Planning (20%)

  • Coordinate the planning and execution of multi-channel campaigns to promote key admissions deadlines, events, and initiatives, ensuring timely delivery and consistent messaging.
  • Collaborate with the Admissions team to implement targeted outreach strategies for diverse prospective student populations.
  • Create and deliver promotional content that aligns with SAIS’s brand and recruitment goals.
  • Maintain and update the Admissions web content, ensuring accuracy, accessibility, and alignment with recruitment goals.


Administrative and Operational Support (10%)

  • Provide general administrative support to the Admissions Office, ensuring smooth daily operations.
  • Maintain organized records of purchases and ensure adherence to departmental budgets and procurement policies.
  • Manage procurement of official office supplies, recruitment swag, and marketing materials.
  • Coordinate scheduling of meetings and events across multiple campuses, departments, and external stakeholders.


Special Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities

  • Ability to represent SAIS professionally and enthusiastically at conferences and recruitment events.
  • Proven ability to counsel prospective students and support them from inquiry to enrollment.
  • Proficiency with client relationship management systems (CRM), preferably Slate Technolutions.
  • Knowledge of best practices in admissions recruitment strategies and applicant lifecycle management.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to engage diverse audiences in various settings.
  • Proficiency in digital content management, ensuring accuracy, accessibility, and alignment with brand identity and recruitment objectives.
  • Familiarity with SAIS admissions requirements, academic programs, and operational processes is a plus.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
  • Flexibility to adapt to changing priorities and take on additional duties as assigned.


Degree of Independent Action Performed

  • Has a high level of responsibility and operates with significant latitude in partnership with academic directors and deans.
  • Keen judgment and discretion are essential.


Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree.
  • One year related experience.
  • Additional education may substitute for experience to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.

This salary range does not include all components of the SAIS compensation program. This position may be eligible for a discretionary retention and performance bonus, based on individual performance and the SAIS performance during the applicable fiscal year, as determined by the SENIOR ASSOCIATE DEAN OF FINANCE & ADMIN in their sole discretion. Therefore, the actual compensation paid to the selected candidate may vary slightly from the salary range stated herein.

Total Rewards

The referenced base salary range represents the low and high end of Johns Hopkins University’s salary range for this position. Not all candidates will be eligible for the upper end of the salary range. Exact salary will ultimately depend on multiple factors, which may include the successful candidate's geographic location, skills, work experience, market conditions, education/training and other qualifications. Education and Experience Equivalency

Please refer to the job description above to see which forms of equivalency are permitted for this position. If permitted, equivalencies will follow these guidelines: JHU Equivalency Formula: 30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience. Additional related experience may substitute for required education on the same basis. For jobs where equivalency is permitted, up to two years of non-related college course work may be applied towards the total minimum education/experience required for the respective job.

Applicants who do not meet the posted requirements but are completing their final academic semester/quarter will be considered eligible for employment and may be asked to provide additional information confirming their academic completion date.

The pre-employment physical for positions in clinical areas, laboratories, working with research subjects, or involving community contact requires documentation of immune status against Rubella (German measles), Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Varicella (chickenpox), Hepatitis B and documentation of having received the Tdap (Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) vaccination. This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers. Any vaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no cost in our Occupational Health office.
