Research Program Coordinator

The Department of Medicine, Division of Rheumatology is seeking a Research Program Coordinator to assist the Principal Investigator, other research staff, as well as other collaborators in the ongoing management of several research studies, most notably multi-year, clinical cohort studies in the Lyme Disease Clinical Research Center (LDCRC).

Specific Duties & Responsibilities

  • Assist with all aspects of participant recruitment by identifying appropriate patients per the protocol, schedule patient visits and assessments, and perform necessary follow-up.
  • Collect data via extraction from paper and electronic medical records and perform chart review.
  • Obtain informed consent from eligible patients and document the consent process.
  • Maintain logs of patient screening, surveys, and visits.
  • Perform timely data entry. Review data input for accuracy and completeness.
  • Assist in maintaining the filing system for electronic and paper-based research records.
  • Maintain all regulatory binders for enrolling studies and studies in the follow-up phase.
  • Prepare and maintain individual participant study binders.
  • Assist with calculations using a computerized database, word processing, and spreadsheet software.
  • Maintain compliance with HIPAA and IRB regulations and guidelines.
  • Adhere to FDA regulatory compliance and regulations (where indicated). Seek guidance as needed.
  • Handle patient biological specimens and follow protocol requirements for appropriate handling and labeling.
  • Complete all required biosafety training modules.
  • Download ultrasound images from scanner to SAFE Desktop application.
  • Appropriately correspond with the IRB; be familiar with all required research reports and assist with their preparation and submission.
  • Ensure quality, consistency, and accuracy in the conduct of research trials.
  • Carry out duties and responsibilities with limited supervision, and seek clarification when needed, particularly regarding data quality and integrity issues.
  • Effectively prioritize and work on multiple tasks with concurrent deadlines and demonstrate excellent time management skills and efficiency.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in related field.
  • Additional related experience may substitute for required education, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.
  • Must be current with JHU IRB (CITI) Compliance Training Courses or complete the online training within one week of starting employment.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in a clinical or medical research setting
  • Familiarity with JHMSAP software and knowledge of Microsoft Office.
  • Proficiency in word processing, database, and spreadsheet software.
  • Experience using interviewing techniques.

Education and Experience Equivalency

If permitted, equivalencies will follow these guidelines: JHU Equivalency Formula: 30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience. Additional related experience may substitute for required education on the same basis. For jobs where equivalency is permitted, up to two years of non-related college course work may be applied towards the total minimum education/experience required for the respective job.

The pre-employment physical for positions in clinical areas, laboratories, working with research subjects, or involving community contact requires documentation of immune status against Rubella (German measles), Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Varicella (chickenpox), Hepatitis B and documentation of having received the Tdap (Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) vaccination. This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers. Any vaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no cost in our Occupational Health office.
