Sr. Associate Director of Stewardship and Donor Engagement

Development and Alumni Relations (DAR) supports Johns Hopkins’ focus on research, teaching and patient care, and its role as a national and global leader in higher education. We create and foster enduring relationships that result in advocacy and philanthropic support for Johns Hopkins University & Medicine—strengthening the institution through partnerships with donors, alumni, volunteer leaders, faculty, students, staff, and patients.

Johns Hopkins University supports a flexible work model which includes four different work modalities. This role has a remote work arrangement with an onsite presence of 3 days per week. The manager will confirm the team’s core onsite days where the majority/all team members will work in the office. Employees who travel on university business can count those days towards their onsite days.

In partnership with the Sr. Director of Stewardship and Donor Engagement (SDE) and the SDE team, the Sr. Associate Director of Stewardship and Donor Engagement will serve as the primary liaison for the University’s academic divisions and centers, building relationships with a portfolio of divisional leadership and teams and offering guidance and expertise on the implementation of best practices, policies, and procedures relating to stewardship and donor engagement at Johns Hopkins. The Sr. Associate Director will also serve as an expert on naming and recognition across the institution. As a highly visible senior-level individual contributor (with potential for eventual management responsibilities), the Sr. Associate Director of SDE will meet regularly with University Development and Alumni Relations divisional leadership and teams, serving as a thought-partner and trusted resource.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide ongoing guidance, consultation, and subject-matter expertise to a portfolio of DAR University teams and unit leadership.
  • Meet with each assigned division at least once annually to review stewardship plans and share central updates and resources, with the goal of establishing strong relationships with divisional partners and creating ongoing dialogue.
  • Serve as Donor Relations Manager (DRM) for select high-level donors.
  • Become well-versed in the Johns Hopkins Naming and Recognition Policy, with particular focus on the naming of both new and existing buildings and facilities in partnership with JHFRE, Johns Hopkins Facilities and Real Estate, and Development and Alumni Relations leadership and other front-line fundraisers and external vendors.
  • With the Sr. Director and SDE team, develop and deliver stewardship and donor engagement trainings for new and existing DAR staff.
  • Serve on the Donor Relations Liaison Group (DRLG) Planning Committee, DAR’s donor relations community of practice. Participate in content development for quarterly convenings, DRLG Teams group postings and moderation, and office hours on key subjects.
  • Oversee the Founders Wall recognition program; specifically, develop and execute strategy with primary relationship managers and university leadership and oversee appropriate contracts with external vendors and facilities for engraving process. Manage production of personalized, creative donor recognition events for the Founders Wall donors, and collaborate with University Events to contract and oversee external vendors and day-of production.
  • Provide guidance and support to divisional development offices for donor recognition projects including production of donor walls, gifts, and signage.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Three years related experience, with at least two years of professional experience.
