Wireless Support Assistant
IT@JH Network, Telecom, and Data Center is seeking a Wireless Support Assistant who with guidance and direction, diagnose and troubleshoot basic network, device, and data communications problems, install and replace network or other hardware, software and cabling, diagnose basic problems, perform and verify basic switch configuration tasks. May participate and contribute in technical discussions that involve basic infrastructure enhancements. Under guidance, interface with customers to understand their needs and articulate those needs to others. This position is also responsible for the installation, maintenance, ongoing technical support and administration of the organizations network service provision suite to include wireless networking.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities
- Assist IT professionals who are responsible for the wireless network and infrastructure of for the Johns Hopkins University and Health System.
- Fleet replacement working directly with Network Engineers.
- Learn how to conduct wireless surveys using Ekahau.
- Learn basic network functions for routing and switching.
- Learn RF coverage, inhibiters, AP design, and client/device troubleshooting.
- Learn to manage, monitor and troubleshoot wireless connections and install/upgrade wireless access points.
- 100% onsite.
- Home office at JHU Homewood Campus with expected travel to other Hopkins locations as necessary.
- Standing and or walking for extended periods of time.
- Ability to lift/carry/move equipment up to 20lbs.
- Completion of sophomore year of high school and some high school course work in IT, or IT Networking.
- Basic knowledge of IP/MAC addresses, DHCP.
- Computer experience .
- Technical hands-on training on devices, network and/or wireless technologies.

Not all candidates will be eligible for the upper end of the salary range. Education and Experience Equivalency
Please refer to the job description above to see which forms of equivalency are permitted for this position. If permitted, equivalencies will follow these guidelines: JHU Equivalency Formula: 30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience. Additional related experience may substitute for required education on the same basis. For jobs where equivalency is permitted, up to two years of non-related college course work may be applied towards the total minimum education/experience required for the respective job.

The pre-employment physical for positions in clinical areas, laboratories, working with research subjects, or involving community contact requires documentation of immune status against Rubella (German measles), Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Varicella (chickenpox), Hepatitis B and documentation of having received the Tdap (Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) vaccination. This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers.
