Ichauway was Robert Woodruff’s 29,000-acre hunting property in Baker County, Georgia. In 1991, trustees of the Robert W. Woodruff Foundation created Ichauway, Inc. and the Jones Center to study the science of natural resource management. Today, the Jones Center counts more than 85 permanent full-time employees working to better understand the woods, water and wildlife ecosystems of the southeastern coastal plain.   • Description : The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) is responsible for managing the financial operations of the Jones Center at Ichauway (the Center), ensuring the Center’s financial health and sustainability. This role will oversee all financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, financial analysis, and compliance requirements. The CFO will work closely with the Director and staff from the Robert W. Woodruff Foundation (the Foundation) to develop and implement the Center’s annual operating budget, prepare monthly financial statements, manage the Center’s banking relationships and accounts, oversee an annual financial audit, and manage the Center’s administrative staff. Direct reports to the CFO will include the accounting specialist, senior accountant / grants specialist, human resources manager, and receptionist. The CFO reports to the Director of the Center.  Relevant Desired Skills : Financial and budgeting expertise, strategic planning, risk management, communication, decision-making, emotional intelligence, reliability, trustworthiness, critical thinking, problem solving, high ethical standards, business acumen, innovation, adaptability and negotiation.
  • Candidates with the following qualifications and skills are preferred :
  • Master’s degree in accounting, Business Administration or a related field required. CPA preferred.
  • At least 10 years of progressively responsible experience in financial management.
  • Proven track record of successful financial management, including experience developing and implementing financial strategies, managing budgets, and overseeing financial reporting and compliance.
  • Strong leadership and management skills, with experience building and leading high-performing teams.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate financial information to non-financial stakeholders.
  • Passion for the Centers’ mission and work.
  • Interest in mentoring and developing others.
  • Acute sense of ethics and sensitivity to potential conflicts of interest.
  • Well organized with strong attention to detail.
  • Supervisory Controls, Guidelines, and Conditions. The Chief Financial Officer assigns work in terms of general instructions. The work consists of varied financial and budget duties. The variety of duties contributes to the complexity of the position. The purpose of this position is to provide support for the Center’s budget and finance functions. Success in this position contributes to the efficiency and effectiveness of those functions. Contacts are typically with co-workers, other Center employees and retirees, Foundation employees, cooperators, vendors, contractors, insurance agents and members of the public.
  • Duties :  Financial Management
  • Develop and implement financial strategies that support the Center’s mission and goals.
  • Manage and oversee all financial operations, including accounting, budgeting, forecasting, financial analysis, and insurance programs for the Center.
  • Lead the development of all financial statements and accounting workpapers to ensure the accuracy and completeness of financial records, including the general ledger, accounts payable and receivable, payroll, and other financial systems.
  • Prepare and present monthly financial reports to the Director and Foundation, providing analysis and recommendations as needed.
  • Ensure compliance with all financial reporting and regulatory requirements, including tax filings, audits, federal, state and local granting agencies and other reporting requirements.
  • Manage relationships with external partners, including banks, auditors, insurance brokers and other financial service providers. Budgeting and Forecasting
  • Develop and oversee the annual budgeting process, working closely with the Center Director, scientists and other managers to develop realistic and achievable budgets.
  • Monitor actual performance against budget and provide regular updates and analysis to the Director and the Foundation.
  • Develop and maintain financial forecasting models that support long-term financial planning and decision-making. Strategic Planning and Leadership
  • Serve as a member of the Center’s executive team and work closely with the Director and Center leaders to develop and implement strategic plans and goals that support the organization’s mission and vision.
  • Provide leadership and mentorship to administrative finance team, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and professional development.
  • Manage the Center’s Human Resources Manager and provide assistance as needed on HR matters. Board Relations and Reporting
  • Report on the financial performance of the organization to the Ichauway, Inc. and Woodruff Foundation Board of Trustees, including regular updates on budget performance, forecasts, and financial risks and opportunities.
  • Collaborate with the Director and the Foundation to develop and implement financial policies and procedures that align with the organization’s values and strategic goals.
  • Represent the organization at internal events and meetings, providing financial guidance and support as needed.
  • Serve on the 403(b)-retirement plan committee. Tax Filing and Compliance
  • Oversee preparation of all tax filings and other legal and regulatory requirements, ensuring that the organization maintains full compliance with all relevant laws and regulations.
  • Manage relationships with external auditors and other financial service providers to ensure compliance with all reporting and regulatory requirements The work is typically performed sitting at a desk or table, standing, or stooping. The employee occasionally lifts light objects. The work is typically performed in an office.
