Essential Functions
- Manage a team of Sanitarians, overseeing the Master Sanitation program and other cleaning responsibilities.
- Collaborate with production and maintenance teams to develop and implement sustainability initiatives and reduce utility demand.
- Monitor, capture, and manage waste flows to reduce facility waste.
- Oversee the Master Sanitation Program and work closely with the FSQA department on the Environmental Monitoring program.
- Manage recyclable materials with third-party vendors.
- Order and maintain supplies related to sanitation and operational needs, ensuring materials are available to meet departmental demand.
- Manage and operate the sanitation budget, aiming to meet or stay under budget each month.
- Improve and maintain company facilities, contract laundry services, and grounds through internal teams and external vendors to ensure compliance.
- Lead Sanitation & Janitorial teams by example, ensuring thorough training in processes, policies, and procedures.
- Efficiently schedule the team to meet demand while managing overtime to minimize production impact and control costs.
- Serve as the first response team for accident/allergen/spill clean-ups.
- Optimize the team through hiring, training, coaching, and discipline, resulting in a stronger, more engaged team with fewer safety and HR incidents.
- Train or assign mentors/trainers for new employees and temps, ensuring they understand expectations and are trained to achieve positive results safely.
- Process weekly department timecards, team paperwork (position changes, time off, etc.), and document necessary incidents for easy audit access.
- Keep the team on track with all training (safety, GMP, technical, etc.), ensuring appropriate judgment is used when necessary.
- Develop and implement departmental safety hazard assessments, audits, and improvements to prevent workplace accidents.
- Actively support and engage in growth planning (departmental, building, space).
- Communicate effectively and frequently with all stakeholders verbally, in writing, and via technology to ensure information flows freely and efficiency increases.
- Obtain and maintain certification to operate all necessary PIVs.
- Meet all physical demands of the position, including lifting up to 50 pounds occasionally, bending, carrying, reaching, pushing, pulling, walking, sitting, and using various powered industrial trucks.
- Participate in companywide Risk and Disaster Planning.
- Identify areas for improvement, develop, and execute action plans for successful Continuous Improvement results.
- Gather, analyze, and present various data sets to the team, management, and outside visitors.
- Act as a safety incident responder, administer first aid when needed, and participate in emergency evacuation sweeps.
- Complete all necessary paperwork accurately and in a timely manner.
- Participate in the development and adherence to departmental budgeting for better cost control and data analysis.
- Minimum of 5 years of progressive leadership in a food manufacturing environment.
- Experience in Food Industry-related quality assurance, including Metal Detection processes, Swab testing, Allergens, and Contaminants, ensuring continued exemplary GFSI standing.
- Familiarity with GFSI and BRC standards related to cleanliness and sanitation, with a proven audit track record (minimum A grade).
- Machine maintenance/operator experience, capable of performing necessary industrial sanitation on assigned machines safely and efficiently.
- Associate’s degree or equivalent relevant experience.
- OSHA 10 certified.
- CPR, AED, and First Aid certified.
- Food Safety/GMP training.
- Highest level of safety, ensuring no workplace accidents each shift.
- Highest regard for quality, ensuring all product meets or exceeds established standards.
- Ability to work well in a collaborative and team-oriented environment.
- Ability to work well under pressure and within deadlines.
- Adaptability and flexibility, with the ability to act/react in real-time.
