The above salary range is the expected starting pay for this position. Successful applicants will typically be compensated at a rate of $26.28 / hr. Placement at a higher starting salary rate within the range may be considered depending on prior comparable, directly related law enforcement or corrections experience.
This position is non-exempt under the FLSA.

The Juvenile Detention Officer operates under the belief that all youth and families have the capacity for change while striving to provide a safe and secure environment in an institutional setting. Successful Juvenile Detention Officers have integrity and use teamwork and critical thinking to teach skills and encourage youth offenders toward positive change while promoting accountability, responsibility, and positive values.

Day, evening, and night shift work is required on a regular and rotating basis and you must be available to work holidays and weekends. Applicants will work four ten-hour shifts and start on the 12 pm to 10 pm shift. Assignments are at the Durango Detention Center located at 3131 W Durango, Phoenix, Arizona 85009.
All candidates will be required to complete a Candidate Assessment Day as part of the hiring process. The Assessment Day will be from 8 : 30 am to 3 : 30 pm and consist of a tour of the detention facility and operations, screening assessments, and an interview. Please check your availability to attend prior to applying.

Working Conditions :
Work will be conducted in a secure detention facility.
Work regularly requires climbing of stairs, standing, maintaining focus and sight and sound supervision of detained juveniles and may include noisy, crowded areas. It may include exposure to disruptive people, uncomfortable physical conditions, including heat, cold, wetness, strong odors, dust, pollen, and blood borne pathogens. May include kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, sitting, lifting, grasping, hearing, seeing (including ability to clearly distinguish and identify colors), and repetitive motions. Requires frequently exerting force up to 20 pounds, and occasionally 50 pounds of force to move objects. Requires sufficient strength and coordination for restraining and / or carrying the weight of adults, and may require driving.
Must be willing to work any shifts as assigned that may include nights, weekends, and holidays.

Typically, successful candidates are hired at a salary rate up to the midpoint of the range, based on applicable experience, internal equity, and budgetary allowances.

The Judicial Branch of Arizona in Maricopa County participates in the State Retirement systems ASRS or PSPRS. As such, mandatory membership for all full-time employees includes payroll deducted contributions consistent with each retirement system's requirements. The current contribution rate for ASRS is 12.27% and the current contribution rate for PSPRS is 5.84% and up for the defined contribution plan and 8.82% for the defined benefit plan. Judicial Branch facilities are located throughout Maricopa County. This position may be reassigned to other locations. Assignments will be made based upon the needs of the department.
