The Kansas City Free Eye Clinic is a nonprofit organization that provides critical eye care to underserved populations in the Kansas City area. Position Summary:
The Executive Director (ED) is the strategic and operational leader of the Kansas City Free Eye Clinic. Reporting to the Board of Directors, the ED oversees staff, programs, partnerships, and community engagement to ensure the organization fulfills its mission. This role includes cultivating donor relationships, securing grant funding, managing financial operations, and fostering collaborations with community partners.
Key Responsibilities:
Staff Leadership and Operations Management
- Supervise and support the Program Manager to ensure smooth clinic operations.
- Assist the Program Manager with maintaining the electronic health record system, recruiting and scheduling volunteer eye doctors, training clinic volunteers, managing social media accounts, and updating the organization’s website.
- Provide guidance and additional support to prevent staff overwhelm and maintain efficient workflows.
Donor Relations and Fundraising
- Represent KCFEC at events, community talks, and public engagements to promote the mission.
- Cultivate relationships with current and potential donors to secure financial support.
- Oversee the use of donor CRM (Keela) and ensure accurate donor communication.
- Work closely with the grant writer to secure funding through grants, with an emphasis on identifying new government funding opportunities.
- Coordinate the production and distribution of external communications, including monthly progress newsletters.
Financial Oversight
- Partner with Support KC to manage bookkeeping tasks, including bank reconciliation, transaction classification, and financial reporting.
- Record and acknowledge monetary and in-kind donations, issuing tax receipts as needed.
- Collaborate with the Board of Directors to draft and manage the annual budget.
- Oversee payroll processing, employee QSEHRA reimbursements, and annual 990 filings with Support KC.
Community Partnerships
- Cultivate and maintain relationships with current community partners, including Heart to Heart International, KidSight, Hope Faith Ministries, and University Health.
- Explore and establish collaborations with potential new partners such as KC Care, Cornerstones of Care, and Care Beyond the Boulevard.
- Work with the Program Manager to coordinate clinics, ensuring operational efficiency and successful execution.
Compliance and Reporting
- Maintain nonprofit compliance with local, state, and federal regulations, including the IRS, Missouri Secretary of State, Department of Health & Senior Services, Attorney General, Department of Labor, and Department of Revenue.
Board Collaboration
- Provide monthly progress updates to the Board of Directors.
- Partner with the Board to execute fundraising events, secure sponsorships, and expand donor relationships.
- Other duties as assigned by Board of Directors.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree and 5 years of relevant experience, or 7 years of commensurate experience.
- Strong background in sales, business development or fundraising.
- Nonprofit experience is not required, but a passion for helping others is essential.
- Exceptional leadership, organizational, communication and budgeting skills.
- Proven ability to build relationships and manage multiple priorities effectively.
