What are the responsibilities and job description for the Mechanical Drafting Technician position at The Kelly Group?
The Kelly Group is seeking a Mechanical Drafting Technician for its Lafayette, Indiana, facility. Candidates with various levels of experience and education will be considered, but applicants should have a minimum of 3 years of experience - preferably in work related to industrial contracting and sheet metal/structural steel fabrication.
A company vehicle may be provided for travel to remote jobsites for this position.
This position requires the ability to perform these essential duties:
- Take field measurements and transfer them into fabrication drawings
- Utilize CAD equipment and drafting packages to prepare clear, complete and accurate working plans and detail drawings from detailed or rough sketches
- Read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, schematics and other sketches
- Check dimensions, analyze materials and consider relation of various parts to whole structure of project
- Interact effectively with customers, project managers, engineers and fabricators
- If operating a company vehicle, a valid driver's license and driving record acceptable to company insurer are required
Other responsibilities may be assigned for highly experienced candidates:
- Operate long-distance 3D scanner hardware and software
- Work with point cloud data to produce 3D CAD models
- Pull field measurements for retrofitting in industrial construction
- Work directly with customers to develop models based on client design and specifications
- Develop field install prints and work with field teams to ensure correct installation
- Develop shop fabrication prints and work with fabrication team to ensure correct fabrication
Other preferred qualifications sought include:
- Proficiency using Autodesk AEC Collection (Plant 3D, Advance Steel, Navisworks) and Microsoft Office software
- Associate's degree in engineering, drafting, design, graphic arts or a related field
