What are the responsibilities and job description for the Barback position at The Keys Piano Bar & Grill?
Job Summary:
The ideal candidate will be able to work with other barbacks to communicate with Bartenders, wash glasses and go back and forth to the storeroom to maintain an effective bar service. They may also assist in unloading and storing kegs, drink bottles and supplies like napkins, straws, and food products. A successful barback will anticipate the needs of the bartender, is good at multi-tasking, organized, energetic, clean, punctual and a good communicator.
Duties / Responsibilities:
- Work with others to keep all areas always clean and stocked to the company’s standards.
- Prep garnishes, juice citrus, label, and date containers.
- Refill ice wells.
- Restock liquor bottles.
- Change out beer kegs.
- Replenish counter items.
- Maintain clean bar rags.
- Wash and sterilize glasses and dishes.
- Run drinks and clear glassware.
- Unclog sinks.
- Mop and clean the no-slip mats behind the bar.
- Clean counters, furniture, glasses, and some dishes.
- Set up and tear down the bar at each shift.
- Put away all liquor and beer deliveries that came in during the day.
- Track opening or closing liquor inventory.
- Help with punching out orders into the POS system as needed.
- Take out trash or recycling throughout shift (and wash hands after handling any garbage).
- Help bartenders with anything they need.
- Work as a team with all personnel to maintain an effective atmosphere and an efficient food and beverage service.

Required Skills / Abilities:
- Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.
- Ability to operate point-of-sale systems.
- Basic mathematical skills and an ability to handle money and give correct change is required.
- Possess basic reading and computer skills.
- Possess basic knowledge of beer, wine, and spirits, and familiarity with standard drink recipes.
- Must have excellent communication and organizational skills with the ability to take and place food and beverage orders accurately.
- Must be multi-task oriented.
- Possess knowledge of company’s food and beverage specifications and workplace safety procedures.
- Must pass background check.
Education / Experience:
- High school diploma, GED or equivalent.
- 2 years’ experience in the role of a barback, preferred.
- Be of legal age to serve alcohol.
- Strong knowledge of bar menu items.
- Must successfully complete restaurants training course.
Physical Demands / Working Conditions:
- Physically fit to meet the demands of the job, such as lifting liquor boxes and standing for long hours.
- Must be able to continuously reach, bend, lift, carry, stoop, and wipe with potential for slipping or tripping.
Job Type/Salary:
- Part Time Non-Exempt
- Willing to work night shifts and on weekends and holidays.
- Hourly wage based on experience.
