Job Title: Debate Coach
Job Status: Part-time, 10 Months
Exempt Status: Non-Exempt, Piece-Rate
Department: English
Reports to: Division Principal
Job Summary
TKA is a Christ-centered school grounded in a Biblical worldview, and we are looking for a Debate Coach who is a follower of Jesus Christ and is dedicated to the school’s Christ-centered mission. The primary responsibility of this position is to supervise a student-centered program that focuses on giving students a unique and stimulating experience in debate by preparing them for competitions, handling registration and tournament fees, judging, and being present at these competitions.

Essential Job Functions
Regular Activities
- Build leadership, self-confidence, and problem solving skills among the students
- Facilitate meetings and help the team to coordinate work
- Provide some hands-on guidance and feedback for the students’ debate cases and arguments
- Watch speeches and debate practices and provide comments for improvement
- Keep up with NSDA league enrollment/fees/tournament administrative details
- Coordinate volunteer judges for tournaments
Qualifications
Education and Experience
- 1 years of experience in related field, as a student or a coach
- Ability to foster community
- Positive, flexible, resourceful, and solution-oriented
Skills and Abilities
- Strong leadership qualities and mentoring skills
- Excellent skills in communicating both orally and in written form
- Able to work both independently and in a team setting
- Demonstrated ability to lead by example
- Proficient with Microsoft Office and Google Suite
- Ability to learn new computer software systems

Working Conditions & Physical Requirements
- Required to use the computer throughout the day
- Frequently communicates with students and parents
- Work will be performed from the campus and travel to competitions
- May occasionally have to lift up to 20 pounds
- Work is generally performed, Mid August-Early June
- One regular one hour meeting per week plus meetings after school or during weeknights for practices (scheduled independently with students based on their schedule)
- Attend weekend tournaments with debate team (as needed; approx 8 weekends per year), where all-day physical attendance is necessary
- The timeframes listed are approximate, and the actual days will be dictated by the competition season and the department’s needs.

- Pay Grid Range: $5,150.00
- The amount listed above represents the pay for the entire season based on the routine hours that are expected to be worked.
