Job Title: Theatre JH & HS Musicals Choreographer
Job Status: Part-time
Exempt Status: Non-Exempt, Piece Rate

Reports to: VPA Specialist
Job Summary
TKA is a Christ-centered school grounded in a Biblical worldview, and we are looking for a Theatre JH & HS Musicals Choreographer who is a follower of Jesus Christ and is dedicated to the school’s Christ-centered mission. The primary responsibility of this position is to design and direct the dance or stylized movement in the Junior High and High School musical productions, working closely with the director and musical director. The choreographer will work in cooperation with the artistic staff including the director, vocal director, scenic designer, lighting designer, sound designer, and other creative personnel.
Requirements
Essential Job Functions
Regular Activities
- Work with director to schedule rehearsals
- Contribute to the audition process and casting selection
- Direct dance rehearsals
- Record dance movements and provide rehearsal videos to cast members
- Assist actors during Tech Week rehearsals and performances
- Creating dance steps that fit with the mood, music, theme, and that are audience-appropriate.
- Supporting, guiding, and explaining all steps and formations to dancers
Qualifications
Education and Experience
- 5 years dance experience
- 2 years experience instructing preferred
- Choreography experience required; Bachelor’s degree in or equivalent desired
Skills and Abilities
- Strong interpretive and creative thinking skills.
- Excellent attention to detail, time management skills, and work ethic.
- Experience directing large, double cast plays and musicals
- Experience working with a production team on musicals alongside director and musical director.
- Strong leadership qualities and mentoring skills
- Excellent skills in communicating both orally and in written form
- Able to work both independently and in a team setting
- Demonstrated ability to lead by example

Working Conditions & Physical Requirements
- Work will be performed from the campus
- Will move throughout the campus during the day
- May occasionally have to lift up to 20 pounds
- Work is generally performed, Mid August - April
- This production schedule is established each spring. As much advance notice as possible will be provided.
- The months listed are approximate, and the annual start and end date will be dictated by the school calendar and the department’s needs.
Salary & Benefits
- Pay Grid: VPA Musical Choreographer
- Pay Grid Range: $2500 for JH Musical, $3000 for HS Musical
- This position is paid based on a preset salary grid, and the actual salary will be determined by applicable education and experience as determined by the Human Resources department. The starting pay listed reflects this position's minimum experience and education requirements. The top pay range represents the top of the pay grid for this position. It is rare for a candidate to enter this position at the top of the pay grid. Most candidates can expect to enter in the lower to middle section of the pay grid, depending on experience and education.
