Secondary Principal – Job Description
The mission of The King’s Christian Academy is to help parents and churches educate their children in truth and righteousness through academic excellence based on a Biblical worldview to build Christian character. To carry out this religious mission, The King’s Christian Academy employs likeminded people who through their speech, conduct, and ministry to students will further The King’s Christian Academy’s religious purpose and beliefs.
The Secondary Principal is responsible for carrying out the school’s central mission within the Secondary Division (Grades 6-12).

Required Professional Qualifications
- Hold at least a masters degree from an accredited postsecondary institution.
- Hold and maintain ACSI Principal certification or state equivalent with ACSI additional requirements.
- Demonstrate computer literacy, having a high level of proficiency in word processing, spreadsheets, e-mail, and Internet. Must be proficient in the use of Google apps, such as docs and sheets.
- Possess evidence of other adequate preparation, background, or experience as determined by the Head of School.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Monitor and evaluate the entire secondary curriculum on a regular, cyclical basis, updating and revising as necessary to produce desired ends.
- Purposefully and proactively nurture the home/school relationship through consistent two-way communication.
- Mentor new teachers and coach veteran teachers on a regular basis to facilitate ongoing and structured growth and development.
- Provide training and connection for all faculty members at regular faculty meetings and teacher in-service events, at the direction of the Head of School.
- Conduct regular observations of every faculty member, culminating in a year-end review process, including a written review and which results in specific developmental goals for the following academic year. Make recommendations to the Superintendent regarding transfer, termination, promotion, retention, etc. of faculty.
- Execute and track interventions as necessary with faculty who are exhibiting deficiencies.
- Meet regularly with department chairs to monitor and facilitate the growth of each department.
- Create, sustain and consistently evaluate all policies, procedures and systems related to Secondary. Annually update Secondary Faculty and Student/Parent Handbooks.
- Give leadership to the creation of each year’s course schedule and overall calendar, according to desired outcomes and the school’s central mission, and in conjunction with the Guidance Director and Secondary Schedule Coordinator.
- Evaluate the progress/success of all secondary students.
- Oversee the discipleship and spiritual formation of all secondary students.
- Oversee and coordinate Secondary chapel
- Oversee student discipline for the secondary division, ensuring faculty and staff understand the KCA discipline code and enforce it appropriately. Provide support to teachers in the implementation of the discipline code, including directly handling all discipline issues that are recurring, severe, or go beyond the scope of the classroom teacher. Keep well documented records of all disciplinary activities.
- Oversee the International Student Program.
- Take the lead in hiring new secondary faculty, under the supervision of the Head of School.
- Oversee all secondary special education activities, including the development and implementation of individual service plans (ISP), temporary plans for students in crisis, and evaluation of prospective students, in conjunction with the Special Education Director.
- Oversee all secondary interscholastic and intramural athletics, in conjunction with the Athletic Director.
- Oversee all secondary visual and performing arts activities, including plays, musicals, concerts, and art shows, in conjunction with the Visual and Performing Arts Chair.
- Prepare, submit, and monitor the annual budget for the Secondary Division, including Secondary Auxiliaries, such as drama, student council, and honor societies.
- Oversee standardized and state testing for the Secondary Division.
- Participate in the admissions process by reviewing all secondary applications and interviewing prospective students as necessary.
- Update the Student Handbook and Faculty Handbook annually.
- Provide leadership for all secondary special events.
- Serve on various committees as necessary (ex: Student Life Committee, Committee on Special Education, Strategic Planning Team, etc.).
- Approve all Secondary fees and field trips. Work with the Development Director to approve all Secondary fundraisers.
- Oversee and update the school’s safety and emergency procedures, including school emergency response plan (fire, intruder, , child abuse prevention
- Oversee senior class non-academic activities, including senior privileges and the annual senior class trip.
- Craft annual personal and divisional goals and short-term objectives in conjunction with the Head of School.
- Prepare detailed, regular written reports for the Head of School on all areas of responsibility.
- Serve on various committees as necessary (Committees may be board, staff, or community committees).
- Serve in other capacities as are traditional for secondary Principals, and in other capacities, at the direction of the Head of School.
- Oversee all campus operations when the Head of School is not on campus.
Relationships
- The Secondary Principal is hired by, responsible to, and evaluated by the Head of School.
- The Secondary Principal oversees and evaluates the following individuals:
- Academic Department Chairs
- Secondary Divisional Leaders
- Athletic Director
- Academic Advisor
- Special Education Director (when working with secondary students)
- Performance and Visual Arts Chair
- Secondary Co-Curricular program directors, such as honor societies, student government, drama programs, and internships
- All Secondary faculty members and/or aides
- The Secondary Principal works collaboratively with the Elementary Principal, the Office Manager, Development Director, Admissions Director, and other colleagues on all items or issues of mutual interest and/or impact.
- In the event the Head of School is not on campus, the Secondary Principal will be the individual designated to handle any situations that rise above the rest of the administration team.
Commitment
The Secondary Principal position is a salaried, 12-month position, and includes a full benefits package. Normal on-site working hours during the school year are 8:00 am to 4:30pm, and 9am – 4pm during June, July and part of August, exclusive of special summer circumstances such as faculty orientation days, special projects, etc.
An initial, non-binding commitment of two academic years is expected.
