Cooney Fellow - Lower School Educator
Kinkaid’s prestigious Cooney Teaching Fellowship offers an unparalleled opportunity for a future educator to gain substantial teaching experience in a dynamic educational environment best known for its innovation and passion for excellence. The Fellowship is a year-long, paid assignment awarded to an outstanding education graduate with little or no teaching experience. The application deadline is March 31, 2025.
The Kinkaid Lower School (pre-k - 4) is seeking a dynamic, student-centered individual with an interest in gaining practical teaching experience through a year-long internship in an independent school setting. The purpose of this internship is to partner a future educator with master teachers to gain experience with effective lesson planning, creating an engaging learning environment, and mastering content delivery. The teaching fellow will build student and collegial relationships, develop familiarity with core content areas, and learn about the fundamental workings of an elementary school, and explore key aspects of effective instruction. This is a paid internship for the duration of the 2025-26 school year, starting in August 2025.
The Fellow will also participate in all aspects of faculty life including faculty meetings, supervisory duties, and teacher professional development days.
The Kinkaid School is a co-educational non-sectarian day school enrolling 1,400 students in pre-kindergarten through twelfth grade. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Work closely with Lead Teachers and Grade Level Teams to engage in weekly planning
- Support learning in the classroom when working with students one-on-one and in small groups
- Work with Lead Teachers and Assistants to prepare lesson and activity materials
- Teach lessons in conjunction with Lead Teacher
- Assist with the supervision of students throughout the school day in areas such as recess or lunch
- Supervise early arrival of students in the Big Room daily
- Support the School, its mission, and its leadership
- Be an active member of the school community by attending games, performances, and other special events
- Attend weekly Faculty Meetings
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Education, the Humanities, Science, or related field
- Experience with and enjoyment of working with elementary-age students
- Commitment to the field of education as a future master teacher
- Familiarity with technology
- Strong work ethic and willingness to invest time to learn and grow
- Open to constructive feedback
- Demonstrated ability to work in a collaborative environment
- Interest in being a full member of the community, contributing both inside and outside of the classroom
- Eagerness to grow professionally and remain current within the field
