Role Overview

Reporting to the Innovation Fellowship Program Manager, the Student Success Specialist is responsible for the persistence and success of each student at TKH. The Student Success Specialist supports students' recruitment experience, onboarding, persistence, and graduation. Their central focus is coaching students around self-management skills and connecting them with supportive services and resources to remove barriers. They do this through case management meetings with students to review progress toward program completion and professional and personal goals. They communicate expectations, course schedules, and student assignments throughout the program. They also collect and report student persistence and performance data to inform the team about student needs for particular interventions and / or further support.

Key Areas of Responsibility

Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following :

Program Cultivation & Student Engagement (40%)

  • Assist in recruitment efforts for assigned programs, including the interviewing and selection process for prospective students.
  • Organize and execute community engagement events, workshops, and seminars-such as orientations, graduations, and personal and professional growth activities-designed to foster a sense of belonging, enhance student connectivity, and improve retention across all locations.
  • Organize and facilitate workshops or training sessions that address common barriers to success, equipping students with the tools and strategies needed to thrive.
  • Support the editing and maintenance of program-related documents, including handbooks, calendars, engagement materials, policies, and procedures to enhance student engagement and program success.
  • Serve as a point of contact for students, addressing inquiries and providing guidance on program services and community engagement opportunities.
  • Identify and showcase impactful student success stories to effectively promote TKH programs to stakeholders and the broader community.

Case Management and Support Services (40%)

  • Conduct frequent check-ins with students within assigned caseloads to discuss program progress, performance metrics, personal goals, and any barriers to success they may be facing.
  • Support the sourcing, security, and maintenance of relationships with community-based organizations (CBOs) and self-service resources to effectively reduce or eliminate barriers hindering student success.
  • Review and manage barrier support platforms and reports, identify students' challenges, and develop actionable plans to address and remove these external obstacles.
  • Facilitate meetings with students identified as at-risk due to academic performance, collaborating with relevant stakeholders to create targeted action plans to improve program participation and enhance retention through coordinated tutoring and coaching support.
  • Conduct case management meetings with students regarding incidents, violations of the code of conduct, and other concerns, providing guidance and support as needed.
  • Collaboration and Data Management (20%)

  • Maintain the accuracy, organization, and availability of essential student program documents, including enrollment agreements, progress reports, case notes, and financial records, ensuring compliance and accessibility.
  • Analyze student performance and retention data to identify trends, providing actionable recommendations for enhancements to support student success.
  • Collect and analyze participant feedback to evaluate program effectiveness and make informed suggestions for improving future activities and program design.
  • Partner with instructors and support staff to identify and address student challenges, facilitating a coordinated approach to student engagement and support.
  • Manage and maintain a database of resources, including tutoring opportunities, professional and personal development services, and technical support, ensuring students have access to necessary assistance.
  • Proactively seek and participate in opportunities to enhance skills and knowledge in program support, educational methodologies, and emerging technologies, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and excellence within the fellowships.
  • Qualifications

    Experience

  • 2 years of experience in education, counseling, social work, psychology, or related fields, with a preference for roles focused on student engagement, academic advising, or case management.
  • Experience with Salesforce and the Canvas Learning Management System preferred

  • Ability to build rapport with students, understand their challenges, and offer tailored support and strategic solutions to overcome barriers to success;
  • Empathy and sensitivity to diverse student backgrounds and challenges;
  • Resourcefulness in sourcing and managing support services and resources for students facing barriers;
  • Proven ability to organize workshops, community events, and educational programs that foster student engagement and a sense of belonging;
  • Skills in facilitating training sessions and workshops addressing barriers to student success;
  • Excellent verbal and written communication abilities, enabling effective interaction with students and staff and providing guidance and support;
  • Skilled in analyzing student performance and retention data, identifying trends, and informing program enhancements to support student success;
  • Exceptional organizational skills with attention to detail, capable of managing multiple projects, maintaining documentation, and meeting deadlines in a fast-paced environment;
  • Familiarity with project and case management systems, including Canvas, Google Workspace, Salesforce, ASANA, and more;
  • Strong teamwork skills, with a collaborative approach to projects and the ability to delegate, problem-solve, and communicate effectively within a team setting;
  • A self-starter who seeks personal and professional development opportunities, continually improving engagement strategies.
  • Compensation and Benefits

  • 60,000-$72,000 per year (New hires are typically brought into the organization at a salary closer to the start of the range depending on qualifications, internal equity, and the budgeted amount for the role)

    All full-time staff are expected to come into a TKH office or the field (community and industry events, including conferences or travel for work) 1-2 days per week, and the Leadership Team will be encouraged to come into a TKH office at least two times per week. There will be one consistent team day a week that will vary by team. Please note that there are some roles that may require being on-site more based on the job responsibilities.

    In addition to the 1 team day, there will be weeks when the expectation is 2 days / week based on required meetings. These may include all staff meetings, department stepbacks, professional development, retreats, events, or other purposeful reasons, as requested by your supervisor or team lead.
