Job Description Design Drafting Lead

Title: Design Drafting Lead, Koetter Construction

Status: Exempt

Reports To: President of Construction, Koetter Construction

Location: Floyds Knobs, IN

Position Purpose

The Design Drafting Lead, Koetter Construction (KC) is responsible for leading the architectural, civil, structural, mechanical, plumbing, and electrical design efforts for the construction division. This includes researching, implementing, updating, and/or maintaining drafting software to aid in the overall sales strategy. This person is responsible for providing design and drafting support for projects of all scales and providing guidance on code compliance. This person will maintain a team of highly engaged internal and external professionals that are responsible for satisfying customers and being an ambassador of the company. This position will collaborate with other team members, in particular the estimating department and their manager, as well as other divisions to increase the overall company performance.

Key Responsibilities

• Contribute to the development of the KC strategic plan
• Ensure the individual knows the Company’s unique, differentiating values in the market with an understanding on how to translate this to customers during the sales process
• Investigate, apply, & communicate local, state, and federal building codes, construction trends, & technology with staff & customers
• Create preliminary floor plans, site plans, elevations and detailed drawings based on minimal information including a comprehensive code review.
• Finalize near-construction-ready drawings ready to hand off to a licensed architect.
• Apply an understanding of construction best practices and methods toward a value inspired approach to drafting. If an initiative is lagging, work with teams to employ the required countermeasures to get back on track in the most expeditious fashion
  
  

Customer Relations

• Negotiate preferred design strategies with customers while also building strong, long-term, customer relationships
• Present preliminary and/or final drawings to the client and communicate back to internal groups the outcome focusing on conveying the expectations set forth for each group, i.e., clear details, critical timeframes, and client expectations
• Consult with clients after sales or contract signings to resolve problems and to provide ongoing support
  
  

Department Role

• Develop and maintain the department’s scorecard including the measures of success listed above
• Have constant communication with the estimating team to gather clear direction on projects and goals
• Conduct periodic project reviews with the estimating team to assure the tactical plans are being executed according to expectations
• Collaborate with KC Project Managers relating to matters such as current construction methods, trends, and best practices.
• Work closely to support design-build efforts, due diligence, preconstruction, RFQs/RFPs, and strategy at the behest of the estimating manager.

Education & Experience

• Technical degrees preferred
• Must have 5 years of commercial construction drafting experience
• Experience drafting a wide variety of project types in the commercial, municipal, and industrial sectors.
• Experience in design-build project delivery is preferred

• The employee is maybe occasionally required to stand, walk, sit, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl
• The employee must occasionally lift or move up to 25 lbs.
