Job Title : Controller (head of accounting)

Location : Tempe, AZ

Compensation : $150,000 $170,000 base salary potential equity

The Kostelic Agency, in partnership with a private equity-backed organization under $100M in revenue, is thrilled to present an exceptional opportunity for a Controller role. This dynamic organization offers a fast-paced, collaborative environment, ideal for driven professionals looking to make a significant impact on a growing business.

This role is critical for overseeing the accounting operations of the organization, ensuring accurate financial records, and supporting strategic initiatives in partnership with stakeholders and the holding company. The Controller will lead an accounting team of 2-3, manage the general ledger, and drive process improvements across the board.

Key Responsibilities :

Oversee general ledger accounting and ensure accurate and timely financial close processes.
Lead the month-end book closing process and prepare financial statements aligned with stakeholder expectations.
Analyze and optimize accounts payable (AP) and billing processes , ensuring smooth operations and preventing bottlenecks.
Partner with private equity stakeholders and holding company representatives, providing financial insights and meeting reporting demands.
Monitor and interpret KPIs (Key Performance Indicators), utilizing their ERP for generating and analyzing comprehensive reports.
Ensure accuracy and completeness in financial data, self-auditing processes to identify and address any discrepancies.
Collaborate closely with the technology team to streamline workflows and enhance operational efficiencies.
Cultivate a dynamic, high-performing team environment, fostering collaboration and continuous improvement.

Must-Have Qualifications :

Proven expertise with ERP's, including the ability to generate reports, analyze KPIs, and troubleshoot financial discrepancies.

Comprehensive understanding of stakeholder needs and ability to meet the demands of private equity environments.

Strong analytical skills with a proactive, problem-solving mindset.

Experience in handling both detailed GL reconciliations and big-picture metrics like AP turnover and billing efficiencies.

Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-moving, high-demand environment , balancing priorities effectively.

Strong interpersonal and collaborative skills , with the ability to work cross-functionally, particularly with technology teams.

A dynamic personality and leadership skills that drive team success.
