Responsibilities
The Staff Development Coordinator/Infection Preventionist RN is responsible for:
- Designing and implementing educational programs to enhance nursing staff knowledge and skills.
- Participating in the evaluation process by providing attendance records and observing employee performance.
- Providing general facility orientation to new employees and conducting in-service education sessions.
- Developing and implementing a monthly and annual schedule of planned education programs.
- Ensuring Certified Nursing Assistants (CNA)/State Tested Nursing Assistants (STNA) meet the annual 12-hour in-service requirement.
- Actively participating in quality assurance and reporting concerns to the supervisor.
- Providing on-site clinicals for STNA classes (Train the trainer certification).
Additionally, as an infection prevention nurse, you will be responsible for:
- Monitoring healthcare-associated infections.
- Assessing infection prevention problems and making recommendations for corrective action.
- Conducting outbreak investigations and initiating control measures.
- Reporting communicable diseases to the state as required by law.
- Providing educational offerings for orientation and ongoing inservices.
- Consulting with department heads and physicians as needed to improve care.
- Initiating follow-up on employee/resident exposures to communicable diseases.
