Summary:
A Residential Advisor and Teacher Assistant must be a recent high school graduate, or a recent graduate of The Lawrenceville School. Residential Advisors’ responsibilities are to assist with the residential life of students in one of the Academic Scholars programs. The residential advisors and teacher assistants work together with the Head of House and their respective program director to provide support, guidance, and supervision to the students participating in the program. The Residential Advisor and Teacher Assistant position requires responsible leadership skills and maturity in working with students only a little younger than themselves.
Education and/or Experience:
The Lawrenceville School conducts pre-employment screening for all positions which includes a criminal background check, verification of work history, academic credentials, licenses, and certifications. Employment is contingent upon successful completion of the background check.

The residential advisors and teacher assistants work together with the Head of House and their respective program director to provide support, guidance, and supervision to the students participating in the program. The Residential Advisor and Teacher Assistant position requires responsible leadership skills and maturity in working with students only a little younger than themselves.
- Assist the program director and Head of House with both the move-in and move-out days, including attendance at the opening House meeting
- Oversee study hall from 8:00pm to 10:00pm each night of the program.
- Help enforce an 11pm lights out every other night.
- Assist the Head of House in enforcing all House rules and communicate with the Head of House and program director if violations occur.
- Be present for all meals and travel with students to any off-campus activities as required by the program director.
- Serve as a resource for students participating in the program.
- Participate in all class meetings and activities
- Assist teachers with class preparation
- Assist students as needed with independent research
Education and/or Experience:
- Completed High School Diploma (by program date)
- Previous experience supervising children and young adults, preferably in a school or camp environment. Examples include, but are not limited to: peer tutoring, serving as the captain of a sports team, camp counselor (at School Camp or elsewhere), prefect (especially in a Lower House at Lawrenceville), babysitting, etc.
- Prior residential supervision experience of children and/or young adults preferred
- A desire to serve students and participate fully in a residential academic community
- Strong time management skills and ability to complete tasks and meet deadlines
- Outstanding communication skills, including the ability to use clear, concise and grammatically correct written and oral language in all professional interactions with students, their families, peers, the leadership team, and the larger community
- Tolerance for ambiguity and flexibility
- Strong interpersonal, organizational and problem-solving skills
- Ability to remain calm in emergency situations
- CPR and first aid certification preferred
