Prevention Specialist
Hybrid – Virtual and Onsite Work
Starting Salary: $24.50 - $26.50 per hour based on education and experience
Office - Oneonta, NY
- A bachelor’s degree in human services, public health or a related field is preferred.
- An associate's degree will be considered with sufficient relevant experience.
- Experience and training in the prevention, intervention and/or treatment of alcoholism, substance abuse field and family issues is preferred.
- Knowledge of the continuum of services - addiction prevention, treatment, and recovery is an asset.
- Competence in Microsoft suite, Google suite, email, and other computer based applications is required.
- CPP or other QHP license/certification is an asset.
LEAF Prevention Specialists work within a dynamic team environment with all LEAF staff members. Prevention Specialists will communicate effectively with community members of all ages and socioeconomic backgrounds and must demonstrate above average verbal and written communication skills. Teaching, training and public speaking in a variety of settings are key components to being successful in this position. Because of the community-based nature of the work, some evenings and weekends are required. Employees must have their own transportation. This is a non-exempt position.
Prevention specialists are responsible for the development, promotion and delivery of programs, curricula and services for a variety of target populations and in a variety of school and community settings. When additional training is required (or desired) to attain competence in work related skills, Prevention Specialists will attend professional development workshops, conferences, or classes. Because the prevention of problems associated with addictive disorders is broad in scope, Prevention Specialists will have a range of duties as required or assigned.
Duties shall include, but not be limited to:
- Delivering Evidence-Based Prevention Education to students K-12 in participating Otsego and Chenango County schools.
- Tabling at community events to provide outreach and information.
- Traveling to schools and events in a personal vehicle. Mileage is reimbursed.
- Collecting and reporting data to the Assistant Director.
- Networking with other agencies and representing LEAF in coalitions.
- Working collaboratively with other agencies and LEAF staff to develop, promote and/or deliver programs.
- Assessing the community/environment to develop new services or adapt existing programs.
- Collaborating with the LEAF staff to achieve shared goals. This is a highly engaged and supportive team.
- Attending and participating in all staff meetings, LEAF functions and fundraisers.
- Observing general office procedures.
- Performing other duties as required by the Executive Director to support LEAF’s mission.
