What are the responsibilities and job description for the Prenatal Educator position at The Leaguers Inc?
SUMMARY OF ROLE
The Prenatal Educator is primarily responsible for delivering prenatal and postpartum education and home-based school-readiness services on a weekly basis to enhance knowledge of maternal and child development, as defined by Head Start Performance Standards. The Perinatal Educator works with families to provide infant developmental screenings and health services, social services including referrals, advocacy and crisis intervention, parent involvement, and biweekly socializations in accordance with federal, state, and program guidelines. The role also requires partnering with families to implement an age-appropriate curriculum for the newborn and the development of Family Partnership Agreements. These services are provided in a home-based setting with the expecting parent, newborn, and or guardian as active participants, and socialization at The Leaguers’ sites.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES
- Must have strong problem-solving, planning, and organizational skills.
- Must be willing to recruit in the Newark and Irvington, Elizabeth, Roselle, and Union areas.
- The skill to deal with sensitive family situations in a non-threatening and professional manner.
- Ability to work as a team member, collaborate with staff, parents, and community resources.
- Have the ability to apply Infant/Toddler Development theory in daily activities while adapting to the individual needs of children.
- Respond appropriately to an emergency or a crisis. • Daily kneeling, stooping, bending, and sitting on the floor to attend to children's needs
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Intermediate computer skills, internet, and e-mail.
- Pediatric CPR & First Aid Certified (training provided).
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor's Degree or Associate's Degree in Early Childhood Education or health services and 1 years prenatal experience OR
- High school diploma with Doula or Mid Wife certification with a minimum of five years of pregnant services and/or infant/toddler experience.
- Bilingual English/Spanish skills are highly desirable.
- Must have a valid New Jersey Driver’s License and proof of insurance and must provide own vehicle.
Salary : $45,000 - $47,000
