POSITION SUMMARY:
This position will coordinate, evaluate, and teach ASL classes for the TLC community. We are home to two schools (Marie Philip and Walden) serving deaf and hard of hearing students in a bilingual/bicultural setting -- in both a day and residential setting. We also offer a range of community-based services that benefit deaf and hard of hearing children, adults, and their families. This position aims to build a robust, in-house ASL class program. Community ASL classes are among our many avenues in reducing systemic barriers to serving our own and other deaf students, families, and staff in a fully linguistically accessible, culturally competent manner. Successful implantation of this work should produce an increased value in the perspectives, identities, communication, and contribution of ASL and Deaf Culture, and strengthen the impact of ASL acquisition to counter language deprivation among deaf and hard of hearing children in our communities.
