About Marie Philip School:

MPS enrolls nearly 200 deaf and hard of hearing students on our Framingham, MA campus in an ASL/English bilingual, bicultural educational model.

POSITION SUMMARY:

Early Childhood Principal provides leadership and supervision to promote effective early childhood education. This individual oversees the Parent Infant Program, and the preschool program.


SUPERVISOR: Director of Curriculum and Instruction


FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Ensures effective early childhood educational services to the children attending the Marie Philip School Early Childhood Center.


Provides educational leadership to meet each student’s individual needs and determine class assignments for students.


Provides direct supervision to the teachers and teacher aides working in the Early Childhood Center through classroom observations and regularly scheduled meetings.


Ensures effective collaboration with families, LEA’s and other representative agencies.


Works collaboratively with TLC specialists and clinicians.


Oversees the development of each student’s IEP goals, objectives and progress reports.


Ensures effective collaboration among all members of the department.


Works with the educational team to ensure that all TLC policies and procedures are followed.


Develops and maintains a budget for the department and secures appropriate and necessary materials for teaching/learning.


Ensures sensitivity to cultural differences within the school community.


Assists in the recruitment, selection and recommendation of all staff in ECC. 


Conducts annual evaluations of department staff.


Serves as a member of the supervisory team to provide educational leadership to The Learning Center for the Deaf.


Oversees the delivery of services to infants and their families through the Parent Infant Program.


Establishes strong relationships with the Early Intervention Centers that refer families to PIP, and with leaders in the MA Department of Public Health, which oversees early intervention services.


Some lifting may be required when working with young students or students with special needs, however, TLC embraces and celebrates a spirit of inclusion and diversity, and reasonable accommodations and modifications will be made whenever possible.

The diversity of our student population may require that some assignments have a heavier physical responsibility due to safety.


May be delegated and trained to conduct medication administration or certain medical procedure responsibilities for students.


Perform other tasks as assigned by the Department Supervisor and/or Program Leader.

Requirements

  • Massachusetts State Teacher Certification in Early Childhood Education, Deaf Education, or Special Education (or certification from a reciprocal state)
  • Master’s Degree in Early Childhood Education, Deaf Education, or Special Education
  • A minimum of conversational fluency Fluency in American Sign Language required, with native, or near-native ASL fluency preferred
  • ASL Classes may be required based on ASL fluency 
  • Written language competency
  • An understanding of bilingual programs for Deaf children and familiarity with the Reggio-Emilia philosophy 
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Strong interpersonal and behavior management skills
  • Leadership skills and mature judgment with the ability to demonstrate creativity and initiative
  • Minimum of five years of teaching experience, preferably working with young children
  • Previous supervisory experience preferred
