Your Role as a Special Education Teacher
- Plan and use appropriate instructional and learning strategies – Activities, materials, and equipment that reflect understanding of the learning styles and needs of students assigned.
- Develop and implement lesson plans – Fulfills the requirements of The Learning Spectrum curriculum program and shows written evidence of preparation as required.
- Collaborate with students, parents, and other members of staff – Develop, supervise, and implement the IEP process for each student assigned.
- Help students analyze and improve study methods and habits – By grading and providing feedback to students' work.
- Evaluate the current strategies and interventions for referred students – Modify or develop appropriate behavior and/or educational interventions and strategies using information from the IEP, Functional Behavior Assessment, direct observation, school input, and other sources.
- Create a classroom environment conducive to learning – Appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree required.
- Flexible, positive attitude toward students with disabilities.
- Competency with a variety of instructional strategies for individualized learning and behavioral intervention strategies.
- Knowledge of research-based interventions for students with autism spectrum disorder including structured teaching, applied behavior analysis (ABA), and relationship-based interventions.
