Job Summary
We are seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Apprentice to join our team. This entry-level position is designed for individuals looking to gain hands-on experience and develop their skills in a practical environment. As an Apprentice, you will work closely with experienced professionals, learning the ins and outs of the trade while contributing to various projects. This role is ideal for those eager to learn and grow within the industry.
This is a part-time position that will grow into a Full time position. The candidate must be comfortable with working in smaller areas and able stand for length of time.
Candidate is willing to learn ALL aspects of running an equestrian leather based business in retail, custom, manufacturing, trade shows and potential teaching/YouTube creations.
Application process is a 3 part process. Initial application, Zoom virtual, In Shop.
This position is suggested for someone local to the Portland Oregon area as there are no relocation benefits. This is NOT a remote position and requirement is at the shop a minimum of two days a week. No travel benefits to and from shop.
Responsibilities
- Assist skilled in daily tasks in all aspects from administration to production, projects, gaining practical experience.
- Follow instructions from supervisors and contribute to team efforts.
- Maintain a clean and organized work environment.
- Learn to operate tools and equipment safely under supervision.
- Participate in training sessions and workshops to enhance skills.
- Adhere to safety protocols and company policies at all times.
- Document progress and report any issues or concerns to supervisors.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Must be at least 21 years of age
- Strong willingness to learn all aspects of a Leather Retail, Saddlery, Leather custom and manufacturing, teaching.
- Having used machines directed for leather (such as; clickers, stitchers, foil deboss, industrial sewing machines A PLUS.
- Leather portfolio or images of work required (must have some form of experience in leather or saddlery)
- Basic understanding of tools and equipment relevant to the trade is a plus.
- Good communication skills and ability to work collaboratively in a team setting.
- Physical ability to perform tasks that may require lifting, standing, or manual dexterity.
- An understanding in customer service of what 'old fashioned customer service' means. We build relationships with our customers!

Expected hours: 10 – 25 per week
Schedule:
- 4 hour shift
- 8 hour shift
- Monday to Friday
- Weekends as needed
