The Leffell School, an independent K-12 Jewish day school serving approximately 855 students
on two campuses in Westchester County, NY — a suburb of New York City — seeks a Co-Director or Associate Director of College Counseling. Leffell High School enrollment is approximately 300 students, of whom nearly 100% attend four-year colleges and universities, several after first participating in gap-year programs.
The Co-Director or Associate Director of College Counseling is one of two counselors in the office who work primarily with 11th and 12th grade students and their families to plan the college search and application process and participate broadly in the life of the school.
High energy, a strong work ethic, exceptional familiarity with the field of college counseling, outstanding communication skills, a sense of humor, and the ability to work collaboratively are essential for success in this position.
Responsibilities include:
Communicate actively with students and parents to maintain a high degree of community confidence in the college counseling program.
Foster active, positive relationships with admissions officers at colleges and universities throughout North America and occasionally abroad.
Plan, schedule, and promote visits from college representatives.
Write letters of recommendation for approximately 30-40 assigned students and offer guidance to faculty with regard to their written recommendations.
Maintain a high degree of sensitivity and understanding while counseling students and families across all parts and pieces of the college process.
Advise students in all grades on curricular choices and standardized testing.
Plan and teach eleventh-grade college counseling seminars during the second semester.
Guide students and families on the use of Maia Learning and College Kickstart.
Organize and host student and family events throughout the year, including a college fair in the spring
Track admissions statistics and report to the Head of School/Principal.
Attend national and local conferences and other counselor-specific programming pertaining to college admissions.
Update School Profile and College Handbook annually.
Develop a familiarity with gap-year programs that are popular among Leffell School students, particularly those in Israel.
Manage office budget, including travel expenses, association memberships, programming, and purchasing of software and guidebooks.
Assist with planning a multi-day overnight trip for juniors to visit colleges.
Other duties as assigned by the Principal and/or Head of School.
Compensation and Benefits:
• Pay Rate: $90,000-$170,000
