What are the responsibilities and job description for the Administrative Coordinator position at The Legal Aid Society?
The Legal Aid Society, the nation's oldest and largest social justice legal services organization, has an immediate opening for a dedicated and experienced Administrative Coordinator in our Criminal Defense Practice. The Criminal Defense Practice is the primary public defender in New York City, providing holistic, client-centered representation to over 100,000 people facing misdemeanor, felony, and homicide charges as well as criminal case appeals, parole revocation hearings and other post-conviction matters and advocacy.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
Operational Support and Coordination
- Provide day-to-day support for all Criminal Defense Practice operations
- Provide operational support for the Criminal Defense Practice hiring process
- Coordinate recruitment efforts through job postings and offer letters
- Handle highly confidential and valuable information and materials
- Perform all other duties as assigned by the Deputy Director of Operations and Administration and Director of Ops and Admin
- Manage vendor accounts and review and processes invoices
- Assist with special units of the Criminal Defense Practice and coordinate with the LAS administrative departments
- Coordinate the collection of expenditure reports from partner agencies on select government and private grants on a periodic basis for submission to the fiscal staff to support vouchering efforts
- Coordinate the collection of invoices from vendors and coordinate with office administrator across The City to ensure all are processed correctly and timely
- Responsible for detailed planning and status of projects as they arise

QUALIFICATIONS
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree or 4 years of work experience
- High degree of proficiency with Microsoft Office, especially Excel
Preferred Qualifications:
- Some knowledge of the criminal legal system
- Strong computer skills and experience working with systems such as ADP, Blackbaud, SharePoint, etc.
- Familiarity with or ability to quickly learn Law Manager or similar case management systems
- New York State Notary Public or willing to become one

- May or will require travel within NYC, across the five-borough region
- Ability to lift 40 pounds on an occasional/routine basis
SALARY AND BENEFITS
The salary range represents a good faith estimate of the range we expect to pay for this role. The actual salary offered may vary depending on many factors, including but not limited to job-related knowledge, skills, and experience, as well as collectively bargained salary steps for unionized roles.
Salary Range: $83,680 - $88,680
