Location: On-site at 10 Hudson Street, does require travel to satellite properties. This is not a remote position.

Job Summary:

The Light House Inc, A Homeless Prevention and Support Center, has an excellent dynamic full time and part time opportunity for those seeking experience in the Human Services field. A Resident Assistant (RA) is considered key support personnel for The Light House Mission and part of a multidisciplinary team of staff and volunteers who work together to support clients experiencing homelessness and at-risk of homelessness in rebuilding their lives. The Light House (TLH) offers individuals experiencing homelessness a safe place to live and provides essential services to those at-risk of homelessness in a welcoming and friendly atmosphere. The Resident Assistant (RA) position is part of a 24-hour team of 3 shifts and is responsible for maintaining a healthy, safe, and friendly environment for Light House clients. The RA is stationed at the front desk and is a key liaison directing inquiries in person and over the phone to the appropriate staff. An RA must build a trusting relationship to support clients, assist with basic needs, perform administrative duties, help clients build life skills and adhere to program policies. The RA position is an essential staff position.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Act in a professional manner at all times to promote the mission of TLH and support a trauma-informed, client centered environment; adhere to all policies, procedures, and regulations within the employee handbook.
  • Protect client information and data in accordance with HIPPA, specific agency quality assurance standards and clinical performance standards. This includes maintaining accurate and timely documentation of incidents and other activities in online software.
  • Assist with the move in process, provide client orientation, ensure clients have a clean area and necessities, and understand residential safety policies and procedures.
  • Conduct drug tests when required.
  • Coordinate phone and door answering activities of Front Desk Volunteers during shifts to allow for increased presence around the facility.
  • Maintain a safe and clean facility reporting any deficiencies to the appropriate staff member.
  • Assist with the intake of donations, distribute meals to clients.
  • Be knowledgeable about The Light House and programs, handle inquiries occurring during scheduled shift and, as needed, direct calls to appropriate staff for follow-up.
  • Perform other duties, as business needs require.

Secondary Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Ensure that first responders, (Emergency Management Services and or law enforcement, Crisis Response, etc.) when appropriate are contacted immediately during emergencies and in situations where there is imminent harm.
  • Keep abreast of changes to Policy and Procedure as they change and are announced via Chatter, and The Navigator Page.
  • Attend monthly Resident Assistant Meetings and trainings.

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Must have a valid Driver’s License.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • As essential staff, this position has staffing requirements related to 24-hour shelter operations, which requires flexibility. Resident Assistants may also work weekends and holidays.
  • Solid work history with excellent attendance and punctuality.
  • Patience, understanding and compassion.
  • Must have computer skills and the ability to learn new software.
  • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal.
  • Able to work independently and as a team.
  • Employment background check required.

Education and Experience:

  • Mental Health First Aid Training
  • Valid CPR Training
  • De-Escalation Training
  • Naloxone Training
  • Spanish Speaker Preferred

Physical Requirements:

Day to day physical needs will change, this position may require prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer to lifting up to 15 pounds at times.
