POSITION TITLE: Water Safety Attendant
DEPARTMENT: Recreation and Leisure Activities
REPORTS TO (TITLE): Recreation and Leisure Activities Management Staff
POSITION TYPE: Part-Time Hourly
JOB SUMMARY: The Water Safety Attendant plays a key role in ensuring guest safety and delivering an exceptional experience at The LineUp at Wai Kai. This position involves overseeing water-based and recreational activities, providing safety guidance and exceptional customer service, basic activity instruction, responding to emergencies, and supporting operations across the Wai Kai Lagoon and Wave Pool. Attendants will be cross-trained and cross-scheduled across various activities, including equipment rental, safety monitoring, and guest engagement.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
Guest Interaction & Safety
- Greet guests with a friendly demeanor and provide clear safety briefings for all activities.
- Maintain constant supervision of guests in and around the water ensuring all safety protocols are followed.
- Educate guests on safety regulations and enforce facility guidelines to prevent accidents.
- Assist guests with rental equipment, including paddleboards, kayaks, and surf equipment, ensuring proper use and safety compliance.
- Provide guest assistance, answer guest inquiries and offer a friendly and professional presence.
- Supervise activities in the Wai Kai Lagoon and wave basin to promote safe operations and enforce rules.
- Respond to emergencies, administer first aid, and activate emergency action plans when required.
Operations & Maintenance
- Prepare activity areas by completing opening and closing checklists (e.g., cleaning equipment, setting up facilities, and ensuring readiness).
- Perform regular maintenance tasks, including cleaning and minor repairs of equipment and facilities.
- Ensure all equipment is stowed and secured at the end of the day.
Team Collaboration
- Work closely with other team members and departments to ensure smooth scheduling and operations.
- Participate in special events, races, or other activities, assisting with setup and breakdown.
Reporting & Compliance
- Maintain detailed incident and safety reports.
- Ensure adherence to company policies, including safety and risk management protocols.
- Ensure daily checklists and maintenance tasks are completed.
General Responsibilities
- Carry out all other duties as assigned by management to support the overall success of Recreation and Leisure Activities.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
Skills & Attributes
- Strong swimming ability and comfort in various water conditions.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; additional language skills are a plus.
- Ability to remain calm under pressure and respond effectively in emergency situations.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent observational skills and ability to stay alert for extended periods.
Certifications & Training:
- Must obtain Star Guard Lifeguard Certification and CPR/AED-BL First Aid Certification upon hire.
- Must participate in ongoing safety training, in-services, emergency response drills and staff training.
- Hawaii Boaters Safety Certification (Duffy Captains only)
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to swim 550 yards, dive at least 10 feet, and tread water for 2 minutes.
- Capable of lifting 50 lbs. and assisting guests in and out of the water.
- Frequent bending, twisting, standing, and squatting required.
- Work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Education: High School Diploma or equivalent required.
- Experience:
- Previous experience in water safety, recreation, or related fields preferred.
