Job Description

This role provides an incredible opportunity to be the communications leader for massive, fast-growing open source software community projects. You’ll be responsible for developing the PR strategies for these projects, working closely with project marketing and program manager leads to ensure alignment. Tactical execution will include a combination of activities that support integrated campaigns for projects, including content development, media relations, analyst relations, awards and speaking programs, thought leadership and events support. Central to all marketing and communications roles at the LF, you will also define communications strategies and programs to grow developer and community engagement.

You will oversee a team of PR professionals and be supported by an expanded team of marketing, creative, event and content professionals. This role will be responsible for the success of communications efforts and will establish and / or maintain reporting and analytics functions for each project, reporting to the VP of Communications and project boards and committees.

This role will also work closely with the LF Events team to manage PR and communications support for events including the Open Source Summit.

Responsibilities

Develop and implement comprehensive communication strategies for key projects that align with emerging business priorities and drive project adoption, including :

Campaigns and media relations strategies to increase paid, earned, and owned media coverage.

Thought leadership strategy to elevate SMEs within the project leadership and community

Lead media outreach and cultivate relationships with media, analysts, and influencers to enhance projects’' visibility and reputation.

Oversee the creation of high-quality, engaging content including press releases, blog posts, case studies, and presentations, ensuring content resonates with target audiences.

Establish speaking and awards programs

Lead and mentor a team of communications professionals with a drive for business sense, strategic media engagement, creative community involvement, and tangible results.

Together with the project marketing lead, support the development of project positioning, maintain a cohesive messaging framework, and develop strategic narratives to advance the project's brand awareness and adoption.

Set KPIs for PR efforts that align with the project’s goals and maintain analytical performance reporting on a regular basis

Work with LF Marketing experts to assess impact of PR efforts (community engagement, online traffic, etc.), to optimize key messages and improve brand awareness.

Stay informed about open source trends, competitive landscape, and emerging business priorities to proactively adapt communication strategies.

Work collaboratively with team members who manage online presence for the project including web properties, developer sites, and social media channels, and provide content and engagement recommendations

Coordinate LF announcements and press releases

Orchestrate work with external partners (e.g. events teams, media partners) if needed

Lead PR support for Linux Foundation events, including on-site attendance for media management

Support business development with appropriate collateral, such as presentations, pitches, case studies, etc.

Qualifications

12 years of public relations experience, including agency

Demonstrated experience in tech communications with strong familiarity of the open source software ecosystem

Exceptionally strong writing, editing, and speaking skills

Strong knowledge of tech media landscape and relationships with key journalists

Proven ability to manage teams across different projects

Ability to engage and positively influence multiple internal teams in an agency style environment

Excellent at collaborating with many contributors, with strong project management skills

Ability to distill complex technical concepts into customer-centric messaging while staying genuine for developer audiences

Strong client service experience

Excellent problem-solving and project prioritization skills

Preferred

Experience working with developer communities

Experience working with Open Source projects and communities

Advanced degree in a Marketing or related field

Salary $170,000 USD
