The Principal Process Engineer will perform complex and advanced engineering tasks with minimal supervision of the Processing Engineering Manager with the goal of providing more advanced applied engineering capabilities within the process discipline and supporting the development of fellow engineering and project teammates.
This role will report to the Process Engineering Manager.
What You Will Do
- Utilize advanced technical knowledge to perform engineering assignments to solve complex technical problems and project deliverables with minimal guidance and direction from the manager.
- Highly competent to perform all process engineering functions including deliverables such as feasibility and optimization studies, process simulations and heat and material balances, process equipment sizing, process data for instrument and mechanical data sheets, hydraulic piping line sizing and other philosophies and reports; In addition, highly competent to perform relief calculations and flare network modeling
- Utilize advanced knowledge to ensure adherence to relevant DOT 49 CFR 193 and NFPA 59a regulations.
- Ability to develop and check engineering calculations as well as drawings in accordance with industry codes and standards including, assigning tasks and supervising the work of less senior personnel.
- Effectively interface with other engineering disciplines and design teams to ensure the quality of work and consistent technical content for all design documents/data throughout the project.
- Maintain and develop calculation tools such as spreadsheets for departmental use as appropriate.
- Support multi discipline activities as required, work in a team environment and support broader project goals.
- Support estimating and procurement including vendor quote requests, evaluation, and validation.
- Assist project management with budget and schedule development.
- Support business development activities as needed.
- Oversee and guide the work of fellow process engineers and is responsible for checking work done by others and mentoring engineers.
- May serve as a deputy to the Process Engineering Manager.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Experience in engineering contracting and EPC project execution (preferred)
- 10 years related offshore and onshore upstream, midstream with an engineering contractor (required)
- Bachelor of science degree in chemical engineering, mechanical engineering or related field (required), Master of Science degree (a plus)
- Proven ability and interest in generating, checking and approving core engineering deliverables described above in a timely / professional manner (required)
- Experience developing and owning engineering reports, creating and documenting, engineering calculations, summary reports and PowerPoint slide decks (required)
- A proven ability to guide, coach and support the development of senior-level through graduate-level process engineers (required)
- Strong written and verbal communication skills (required)
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
- Ability to interact effectively with vendors and clients (approximately 90% of your work involves internal interaction - 10% external)
- International experience - we execute work across the globe (beneficial)
- Field experience including construction, commissioning, start-up, and operational support (beneficial)
