The Literacy Center is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization serving the Lehigh Valley. Through innovative programming, The Literacy Center delivers high-quality instruction, training, and support for adults who are experiencing language, education, and employment barriers. Our programs include English as a Second Language (ESL), High School Equivalency (GED), and Workforce Development.
The Literacy Center (TLC) is seeking a full time, Development Associate - Hybrid Position.
The Development Associate will be a skilled communicator who generates financial resources for TLC by applying for grants, drafting proposals and reports, writing fundraising letters, planning events, and cultivating strong relationships with potential donors and institutions.
This is a hybrid position. Must reside in the area and be available to work onsite when needed. This position will require occasional evening and weekend hours.
Responsibilities:
- Craft compelling grant proposals and monitor compliance with funding requirements.
- Develop well-researched, well-written and well-documented grant/fund-raising proposals.
- Assist the CEO in grant research and identifying funding opportunities from federal, state government, foundations, and corporate sources.
- Prepare follow-up reports to government, corporations, foundations, and other funders on funds utilization.
- Assist with developing, implementing, and tracking fundraising campaigns.
- Provide accurate and timely processing of gifts and acknowledgment letters.
- Manage the donor database (Donor Perfect) and ensure excellent data integrity. Update and maintain corporate and individual donation database records, internal tracking documents, and sponsorship fulfillment documents.
- Coordinate logistics for events (catering, layouts, timelines, rental needs, etc.).
- Secure event sponsorships from local businesses and corporations.
- Manage event registration process, attendee data collection, and communication.
- Maintain accurate event data in database, including attendee information, registration details, and post-event reports.
- Serve as the lead contact for all volunteers during special events. Conduct outreach, follow up, and confirm volunteer support for events.
- Represent TLC and deliver presentations at donor and funder meetings and community events.
- Interact with stakeholders at fundraising and educational events.
- Create and maintain mailing lists as needed for solicitations, newsletters, and other donor correspondence.
- Assist with content creation for print, e-newsletters, and annual report.
- Prepare and execute components for print and email direct response appeals.
- Provide support for special projects as needed.
- Provide backup for phone calls, emails, and website inquiries, as needed.
- Manage TLC’s USPS systems (PO Boxes, mail forwarding, permit, and other renewals).
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university
- Experience working in a development office of a nonprofit organization
- Grant writing skills
- Event planning experience
- Math skills
- Ability to perform and prioritize multiple tasks seamlessly
- Ability to work independently and as a highly resourceful team member
- Discreet with sensitive information
- Willingness/Experience in public speaking
- Ability to take initiative and tackle new projects
- Ability to manage competing deadlines and pivot as necessary
- Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, & PowerPoint
- Proficiency with donor databases, such as Donor Perfect, is strongly preferred
- Passionate belief in the organization’s mission
- Ability to work from home
This position requires the candidate to possess and maintain a Pennsylvania State Police Criminal Record Check and a Federal Bureau of Investigation Criminal Background Check.
