Job Summary :
The Director of Environmental Services is responsible for overseeing all aspects of hospital cleanliness, sanitation, and waste management to ensure a safe and hygienic environment for patients, staff, and visitors. This role involves developing and implementing cleaning protocols, managing environmental services staff, ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations, and optimizing departmental operations to enhance patient satisfaction and infection control. Additionally, the Director must effectively manage a unionized workforce, fostering positive labor relations while ensuring compliance with collective bargaining agreements.
Key Responsibilities :
- Develop, implement, and maintain hospital-wide sanitation and infection prevention programs.
- Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal health and safety regulations, including ACHC standards.
- Supervise and manage environmental services staff, including hiring, training, and performance evaluations.
- Develop and manage the department budget, ensuring cost-effective resource allocation.
- Oversee waste management, including hazardous and medical waste disposal.
- Collaborate with hospital leadership to improve patient experience and satisfaction scores related to cleanliness.
- Monitor and implement best practices for sustainability and environmental responsibility.
- Conduct regular inspections and audits to maintain quality control and compliance.
- Ensure proper use of cleaning chemicals, supplies, and equipment, providing staff training as needed.
- Lead emergency response efforts for environmental hazards, including spills, biohazards, and disaster preparedness.
- Effectively manage a unionized workforce, ensuring adherence to collective bargaining agreements, resolving labor disputes, and fostering a collaborative work environment.
- Partner with Human Resources and labor representatives to address employee concerns, grievances, and contract negotiations.
