Position Summary

The Food Service Aide supports the hospital's food and nutrition services by performing tasks related to meal preparation, delivery, and sanitation. This role ensures that patients, staff, and visitors receive high-quality meals in a clean and safe environment, while adhering to dietary guidelines and hospital policies.

Key Responsibilities

Food Preparation and Service

  • Portions / serves food, using correct utensils for portion control.
  • Makes / deliveries late trays, patient nourishments / coffee services / and assists with catered events.

Cleaning and Sanitation

  • Sets up, washes, cleans, and refills tray assembly line positions.
  • Prepares dishes for washing, washes them in the dish machine, and puts them away.
  • Operates, cleans, and sanitizes equipment.
  • Cleans floors, walls, cabinets, etc.
  • Removes garbage / boxes / grease from the department.
  • Washes / sanitizes pots.
  • Follows established emergency, infection control, and / or universal precautions procedures as required.
  • Maintains work area and equipment according to standards and policies.
  • Inventory and Supplies Management

  • Obtains supplies and returns unused supplies to proper storage area.
  • Equipment and Safety Compliance

  • Operates assigned equipment and performs all procedures in a safe manner.
  • Utilizes proper body mechanics in all job functions.
  • Attends mandatory in-services related to safety and / or infection control.
  • Time and Task Management

  • Manages own time in a productive and reliable manner, completing work assignments on time.
  • Completes appropriate volume of work while maintaining quality standards.
  • Organizes work procedures to generate acceptable levels of productivity.
  • Completes own work as required and assists others as needed.
  • Adjusts work schedule to accommodate changing priorities.
  • Teamwork and Collaboration

  • Cooperates with coworkers and management to maintain a harmonious environment.
  • Supports and participates in department quality improvement activities.
  • Provides quality improvements, which enhance the effectiveness and efficiency of the department.
  • Customer Service

  • Provides courteous service to internal / external customers in all activities.
  • Offers assistance to internal / external customers as appropriate and / or refers customers to appropriate individuals or departments.
  • Communicates in a professional manner emphasizing objectivity and non-judgmental viewpoints.
  • Assists in solving customer problems in a cooperative manner.
  • Qualifications and Skills

    Education and Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent (required).
  • Experience in food service, hospitality, or healthcare (preferred).
  • Skills and Competencies

  • Ability to follow instructions and work collaboratively in a team setting.
  • Attention to detail to ensure accurate meal assembly and adherence to dietary guidelines.
  • Strong communication and customer service skills to interact effectively with patients, staff, and visitors.
  • Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment while maintaining a positive attitude.
  • Licenses and Certifications

  • Food Handler’s Certification (preferred ).
  • Physical Demands

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, talk or hear, and taste or smell. The employee is occasionally required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and / or move up to 20 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision and peripheral vision.
