Reports to: Assistant Head of Middle School for Student Life
Primary Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree required, graduate degree preferred.
- Minimum three years of experience in middle school teaching and/or school administration is required with a preference in an independent school setting.
- Demonstrate positive interpersonal skills and ability to communicate clearly and effectively with various constituencies of the school to build effective partnerships.
- Experience implementing restorative practices and relationally based accountability systems.
- Knowledge of best practices in brain-based, developmentally appropriate classroom management.
- Technologically literate regarding communication and database systems, as well as social media; knowledgeable regarding educational uses of technology and responsible use thereof.
- Ability to read the emotions in a room, shift perspective, and actively listen.
- Passionate about middle school students and strong knowledge of their developmental needs.
Position Requirements:
- Supports the Assistant Head of Middle School for Student Life in maintaining a structured and supportive school environment.
- Helps implement student conduct policies and reinforces behavioral expectations through restorative practices.
- Assists in managing daily school routines, including arrival, dismissal, transitions, and recess, to ensure efficiency and safety.
- Engages with students throughout the day to promote a culture of respect, accountability, and inclusion.
- Oversees the advisory program.
- Supports teachers in fostering positive classroom environments and provides strategies for classroom management.
- Assists in planning and executing student-centered programming such as orientations, off-campus trips, assemblies, leadership initiatives, etc.
- Communicates regularly with students, faculty, and families to ensure clarity and consistency in behavioral expectations.
- Tracks behavioral data to identify trends and support data-driven decision-making.
- Maintains a visible presence throughout the school day to reinforce expectations and offer support.
- Teaches a maximum of two classes or the equivalent
