Reports to : Primary : Upper School Physical Education Department Chair; Secondary : Director of Athletics (dotted reporting line)
Primary Responsibilities :
- Deliver engaging and developmentally appropriate physical education lessons that align with the school's curriculum objectives and promote physical fitness, skill development, and overall wellness.
- Demonstrate proficiency in teaching strength and conditioning techniques, including Olympic lifts and foundational weightlifting movements such as squats, hinges, pushes, pulls, and carries.
- Serve as a head coach of varsity girls volleyball or head coach of boys varsity soccer. Be able to be a coach of a second program or the equivalent as determined by the Athletic Director.
- Provide instruction and guidance to students during physical education classes, focusing on proper techniques and safety protocols.
- Assess student performance and progress through various evaluation methods.
- Maintain accurate records of student attendance, participation, and performance, and provide feedback to students and parents regarding their progress.
- Manage and maintain equipment and facilities used in physical education programs, ensuring they are safe, clean, and in good working condition.
- Promote a positive and inclusive learning environment by fostering a culture of respect, teamwork, and cooperation among students.
- Collaborate with other physical education teachers and staff to coordinate curriculum, activities, and special events, such as sports days or fitness challenges.
- Communicate regularly with parents and guardians, providing updates on curriculum, student achievements, and any concerns or issues.
- Stay informed about current trends, research, and best practices in physical education, attending professional development opportunities and incorporating new knowledge into teaching practices.
- Actively engage in the school community by attending faculty meetings, participating in school events, and supporting extracurricular activities related to physical education.
- Fulfill additional responsibilities as assigned, which may include serving as a student advisor, supporting extracurricular activities, or participating in school-wide initiatives and events.
- Demonstrate professionalism and serve as a positive role model for students, embodying the school's core values and promoting a healthy and active lifestyle.
