Seeking a Hearing Instrument Specialist (HIS) to join our family owned and operated business. Since 1954, we have been known for our excellent customer service and personal touch.

The candidate must be licensed to dispense hearing aids in the state of Michigan.

This position is full-time with a competitive base salary and bonus structure.

A  Hearing Instrument Specialist (HIS)  is responsible for evaluating clients’ hearing health, selecting and fitting hearing aids, and providing ongoing support and counseling for patients with hearing loss. This person will work closely with audiologists, physicians, and patients to ensure proper hearing aid selection, programming, and usage for improved quality of life.

Responsibilities will include :

  • Conducting hearing tests and assessments to determine the degree of hearing loss.
  • Explaining test results and discussing hearing aid options with patients.
  • Taking ear impressions and ensuring proper hearing aid fitting when appropriate.
  • Counseling patients and families on hearing loss, hearing aid use, and maintenance.
  • Recommending appropriate hearing instruments based on patient needs, lifestyle, and budget.
  • Programming, adjusting, and fine-tuning hearing aids using specialized software.
  • Educating patients on hearing aid care, troubleshooting, and accessories.
  • Conducting follow-up visits to ensure proper hearing aid function and comfort.
  • Addressing and resolving patient concerns or adjustments as needed.
  • Providing repairs, cleanings and routine maintenance
  • Maintaining accurate patient records, hearing aid orders, and service documentation.
  • Adhering to state licensure and industry regulations for hearing instrument dispensing.
  • Following HIPAA and patient confidentiality guidelines.
  • Educating patients about financing, warranties, and insurance coverage options.
  • Meeting sales goals by promoting hearing aids and related accessories.
  • Building relationships with local physicians and referral sources.

Qualifications & Requirements :

  • High school diploma or equivalent (Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree preferred).
  • State licensure or certification as a Hearing Instrument Specialist.
  • Strong knowledge of hearing aid technology, audiometric testing, and fitting techniques.
  • Excellent communication, customer service, and sales skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a healthcare team.
  • Basic computer proficiency (EMR software, hearing aid programming tools, MS Office).
