What are the responsibilities and job description for the Video Producer position at The Maine Wire?
Description:
The Maine Wire is Maine’s fastest-growing digital media outlet, providing Maine and New England with compelling investigative reporting on things that matter. We’re seeking a talented Video Producer to join our team and assist with the launch of new multimedia content streams. Qualified applicants will be comfortable working in a fast-paced, politically charged setting that requires meeting deadlines, staying informed on news and current events, and a thick skin. (Candidates should email resume and samples of video editing work / portfolio to Robinson [@] themainewire.com)
Position Overview:
As the Video Producer, you will play a pivotal role in managing the production of weekly podcasts and video shows from our studio, contributing to video elements of journalistic investigations, and promoting content across all major digital platforms. This is a hands-on, hybrid role requiring work from our studio, in the field, and occasionally from home. That means running a studio, handling a camera in live, unscripted settings, and editing video for sharing across social media.
Key Responsibilities:
- Produce and edit high-quality video and audio content, including podcasts, video shows, and investigative reports.
- Manage production schedules, including booking guests and coordinating timelines to ensure timely delivery of content.
- Operate and maintain a range of video and audio equipment in both studio and field settings.
- Edit and finalize content using the Adobe Suite, including Premiere, After Effects, and Audition.
- Publish and promote content across digital media platforms, including podcasting platforms, X (formerly Twitter), Facebook, Instagram, and Substack.
- Assist in-studio and in the field with documentary projects
- Collaborate with the editorial team to align video projects with journalistic and brand objectives.
Qualifications:
- Proficiency in the Adobe Suite, specifically Premiere, After Effects, and Audition. (Sorry, Adobe skills are mandatory due to current team composition.)
- Experience with podcasting platforms and social media content production (X, Facebook, Instagram).
- Strong organizational skills, with the ability to book guests and manage production schedules effectively.
- Experience working with video and audio equipment in studio and field environments.
- Familiarity with Substack and other digital publishing tools.
- Knowledge of American and Maine politics preferred
- Antipathy for communism and its related ideologies
- Must live within a 1-hour drive of Augusta, Maine, or be willing to relocate.
- This is not a remote position. Although some of the position will be work from home, applicants must be physically present in Maine and available, sometimes on short notice, for video projects in Augusta and the surrounding area.
What We Offer:
- Competitive full-time salary with benefits, paid vacation, and opportunity for advancement
- An exciting opportunity to work with a growing and innovative media organization
- Chance to explore untold stories in Maine and develop modern storytelling skills
If you’re a creative and skilled video producer ready to shape the future of digital media in Maine, we’d love to hear from you.
