Full Time Hourly Position - Hourly Rate $25

Summary

The International Spy Museum is a private nonprofit museum dedicated to educating the public about the world of espionage and intelligence through exhibits, educational programs, special events, and public outreach. Our Facilities team seeks a skilled Facilities Technician who has a high level of proficiency in maintaining both interior and exterior structures within the International Spy Museum’s domain. Under minimal supervision, the candidate will perform both reactive and preventative maintenance tasks at a high level of proficiency. Tasks may require skills associated with painting, drywall, carpentry, locksmithing, finishing, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing during the upkeep or improvement of various property structures and/or equipment. These may include but are not limited to walls, ceilings, floors, furniture, platforms, partitions, windows, doors, boilers, chillers, cooling towers, electrical motors, variable air volume units, and frequency drives. The candidate will provide expertise and assistance in daily operations, set-ups/breakdowns of special events equipment and group rentals, as well as museum exhibition projects utilizing various trade and supervisory skills.

· Ability to represent the museum, and the Facilities Department, in a positive and professional manner.


Responsibilities

· Performs painting, plastering/drywall, carpentry, locksmithing, and various general maintenance, repair, overhaul, and construction tasks throughout the museum complex, following departmental procedures.

· Inspects and repairs, or replaces as needed, electrical fixtures, lamps, receptacles, switches, filters, etc. located throughout the facility interiors and exteriors.

· Work on basic plumbing repairs and/or installation, to include but not limited to faucets, toilets, urinals, sinks, dish washers, pipes, drains, gutters, etc.

· Work on basic HVACR/mechanical systems and equipment. Inspect, identify, and replace filters and belts on belt-driven equipment.

· Perform seasonal duties such as cleaning drains, pits, stairwells, green roof irrigation draining, and exterior upkeep as required.

· Ensure accurate and clear completion of required documentation, operating logs, and maintenance forms, maintaining them according to departmental standards, including electronic data entry.

· Assist with, or independently oversee, event-related duties including equipment setup and breakdown, and ensure post-event spaces are cleaned and restored to their normal condition.

· Carry and utilize issued communication devices for emergency response and daily communication.

· Assist with storm-preparedness and clean-up to include snow and debris removal.

· Actively support a positive work environment focused on creativity, teamwork, service excellence, fun, and diversity.

· This position is classified as ‘Essential,’ requiring the candidate to report to work, or stay on duty during extreme weather conditions or emergency situations, such as storm preparedness or snow and debris removal.


Education Required

· High School diploma or GED.

· Some degree of higher education and/or certified training related to the Facilities field.


Experience & Skills Required

· 3 years of construction and/or facilities maintenance experience.

· Ability to effectively communicate between multiple departments.

· Ability to stand for extended periods of time, to lift at least 50lbs of deadweight, and to perform physically strenuous activities.

· A working knowledge and skillset of basic electrical concepts, HVACR/mechanical systems and equipment, plumbing repairs and/or installation, and the painting/drywall process.

· Under minimal to no supervision, must be able to provide cost estimating and Material Take Off (MTO) from blueprints, drawings, and construction documents.
