The Bakers Assistant at The Manchester Hotel accurately and efficiently prepares pastries ahead of time for both restaurant outlets, Granddam and Lost Palm. This position will report to the Executive Chef, CDC, and Sous Chefs. The Bakers Assistant will prepare the required pastries based on service requirements, expectations, and business needs. The Bakers Assistant will have the ability to assist on the line whenever needed.
Responsibilities:
- Understands the menu and techniques required to execute the dishes properly.
- Understands proper pastry technique and requirements to execute as required.
- Reports to work on time and ready to work scheduled shifts.
- Able to work as part of a team focused on a common goal.
- Understands the importance of tasting and seasoning the food properly, no matter how simple the dish.
- Understands how to work with different forms of heat and cooking methods.
- Receives and applies criticism in a positive manner, even from fellow employees.
- Understands and has experience using different kinds of proteins, fruits, vegetables, grains, dry goods, spices, vinegar, etc.
- Actively learns through inquiry.
- Keeps a clean and organized workstation before, during, and post service.
- Knows station setup and parts to assist sous chefs in ordering and writing prep lists for the next day.
- Able to identify product quality and freshness.
Qualifications:
- Able to work flexible hours (nights, weekends).
- 2 years of experience working in a pastry department is required.
- 5 total years of experience in food & beverage is preferred.
- Culinary school is not a requirement; however, it is preferred.
- Responsible, dependable, punctual.
- Strong communication skills; must be able to speak, read, and understand English.
- Clean and professional appearance.
- Demonstrates enthusiasm for The Manchester.
- Must pass a background check.
