Who We Are
Sitting on a quiet tree-lined street in Soho, twelve floors rise above the neighborhood’s storied lofts, boutiques, and galleries. The name derives from the particular manner of hospitality, one that feels more like staying at the home of a dear friend than at a hotel — discreet, refined, generous. Our hotel has 90 rooms and suites with four distinct F&B concepts led by an acclaimed chef. The street-side seafood restaurant and second floor cocktail bar will be venues that are open to the public. The Apartment and The Rooftop are spaces reserved exclusively for guests and friends of guests.
Job Purpose:
The Bartender is passionate about service, has a good basic understanding of food and drink, and the eagerness to serve and make a difference in our guest’s experience. A sound working knowledge of the products and services within your department, will give you the confidence and ability to make suggestions and recommendations to complement our guests’ choices, enhancing their overall experience and to deliver a consistently invisible, high quality and personalized service.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Prepare and stock the bar counter, fridges, back bar and speed rails for service, ensuing sufficient service equipment (glassware, napkins fruit, purees, mixers etc.) are available, bar is set with appropriate items and mise en place is complete
- Develop a thorough knowledge of all food, beverage and cocktail menus in order to upsell and match food and beverage preferences
- Always ask guests if they have any allergies or dietary restrictions
- Develop a thorough knowledge of all cocktail making skills and recipes according to the cocktail training and the recipe manual
- Be efficient and speedy when making cocktails
- Always acknowledge guest within 1 minute of the guest arriving at the bar
- Actively promote the range of cocktails to guests, making recommendations based on spirit and style preferences
- Be friendly, enthusiastic and attentive to guests and colleagues, smile and maintain appropriate eye contact and friendly tone of voice while conversing with guests and fellow associates; use the guests’ names
- Be constantly aware of your section, maintaining eye contact with all guests and colleagues, anticipating needs through service checks, clearing of glasses and plates and offering further beverages; during peak service periods maintain a high level of guest awareness, ensuring those waiting for service are visually acknowledged and are attended to as quickly as possible
- Remember guests’ preferences, special needs and dietary requirements in order to deliver a high level of luxury service within the bar
- Handle any guest complaints or feedback in a service orientated manner, always make management aware
- Maintain impeccable cleanliness, availability and peak condition of all areas, equipment and supplies within the bar during service
- Always card guests that look under 30 years old
- Never serve guests that seem intoxicated , always alert MOD
- Ensure that all food and drink preparation is undertaken in a hygienic manner, paying particular attention to temperature controls & cleanliness throughout the bar by labelling
- Project at all times a positive and joyful attitude, yet stay composed under pressurised situations
- Other duties assigned by the manager.
Qualifications, Knowledge and Skills:
- At least 3 years of experience in a high volume, upscale NYC restaurant or hotel food and beverage operation.
- A very strong eye for detail.
- Flexible hours are required, including holidays, weekends and supervisory coverage when needed.
- Understanding of the English language, speak, read and write.
Physical Requirements:
- Move, lift, carry, push, pull, and place objects weighing less than or equal to 50 lb. without assistance.
- Requires grasping, writing, standing, sitting, walking, repetitive motions, bending, climbing, listening and hearing ability and visual acuity.
- Stand, sit, or walk for an extended period of time or for an entire work shift.
- Reach overhead and below the knees, including bending, twisting, pulling, and stooping.
- Remain in a stationary position for extended periods of time.
