Overview
The primary purpose of your job position is to supervise the day-to-day nursing activities of the Medicare Unit. Such supervision must be in accordance with current federal, state, and local standards, guidelines, and regulations that govern our facility, and as may be required by the Director of Nursing Services, to ensure that the highest degree of quality care is maintained at all times.
Duties
Administrative Functions
- Participate in maintaining written policies and procedures that govern the day-to-day functions of the Post Acute Unit.
- Ensure that all nursing service personnel comply with the procedures set forth in the facility Medicare Manual.
- Make written and oral reports/recommendations to the Director as necessary/required, concerning the operation of the Post Acute Unit.
- Assist in developing methods for coordinating nursing services with other patient services to ensure the continuity of the patients’ total regimen of care.
- Ensure that all nursing service personnel are in compliance with their respective job descriptions. * Participate in the maintenance and implementation of the facility’s quality assurance program for the Post Acute Unit.
Committee Functions
- Attend various committee meetings of the facility (i.e., Infection Control, Policy Advisory, Pharmaceutical, Quality Assessment, etc.) as required.
- Assist in preparing written and/or oral reports of the nursing service programs and activities to submit to such committee(s) as directed.
- Provide information to the Quality Assurance and Assessment Committee as requested.
- Participate in developing the agenda for the Care Plan Committee meetings as necessary.
Nursing Care Functions
- Inform nursing service personnel of new admissions, their expected time of arrival, room assignment, etc., and assist with admissions as needed to ensure accuracy.
- Follow up with duties assigned by the Director of Nursing for the Post Acute Unit.
- Coordinate with other departments such as Admissions, Infection Control, Dietary, Housekeeping, Maintenance in assuring coordination of services on the Post Acute Unit.
- Greet newly admitted patients upon admission.
- Make rounds with physicians as necessary.
- Ensure that attending physicians record and sign progress notes, physicians’ orders, etc., on a timely basis and in accordance with current regulations.
- Inform the Director when physician visits are not made in a timely manner.
Staff Development Functions
- Participate in developing, planning, conducting, and scheduling in-service training classes that provide instructions on “how to do the job,” and ensure a well-educated nursing service department.
- Implement and maintain an effective orientation program that orients the new employee to your Unit, its policies and procedures, and to his/her job position and duties.
- Provide leadership training that includes the administrative and supervisory principles essential for your Charge Nurses as directed.
Education
- Must possess, as a minimum, a Nursing Degree from an accredited college or university, or be a graduate of an approved RN program.
Desired candidate will be RAC Certified and be familiar with MDS Coding and accuracy for the Post Acute Unit.
Experience
- Must have experience as a supervisor in a hospital, long-term care facility, or other related health care facility. * Must have training in rehabilitative and restorative nursing practices.

Specific Requirements
- Must possess a current, unencumbered, active license to practice as an RN in Missouri.
- Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language.
- Must possess the ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action.
- Must possess the ability to deal patiently, tactfully, with a cheerful disposition and enthusiasm with personnel, patients, family members, visitors, government agencies/personnel, and the general public based on whatever maturity level at which they are currently functioning.
- Must be knowledgeable of nursing and medical practices and procedures, as well as laws, regulations, and guidelines that pertain to long-term care.
- Must possess leadership and supervisory ability and the willingness to work harmoniously with and supervise other personnel.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $29.00 - $35.00 per hour
