Position Scope
The Mary Campbell Center is first, last, and always home to 68 residents. The Assistant Director of Nursing (ADON) is responsible for providing management support to The Center's health care team in their goals of achieving a truly homelike environment in which MCC residents live with respect, personal dignity, and independence to the fullness of their abilities. The ADON is charged with championing The Mary Campbell Center's Guiding Principles and mission in a manner that ensures compliance with State and Federal regulations. The ADON must be a positive role model who works effectively, efficiently, and with respect for residents, staff, families, volunteers, professional consultants, and the physical environment of The Center.
Minimum Requirements
The ADON at the Mary Campbell Center must 1) be a good person of high character who demonstrates compassion and understanding, consistently works with a positive attitude and advocates effectively on behalf of residents who have varying degrees of disabilities, and 2) be a graduate of an accredited school of nursing with a current R.N. license in the State of Delaware (BSN preferred); have three to five years clinical nursing experience in an acute long-term care or rehabilitation setting, and two to five years managerial experience. The Assistant Director of Nursing must be CPR certified; possess documented effective leadership ability, excellent verbal and written communication skills, and proficiency in utilizing technology tools to effectively manage resident health reporting and to achieve individual, department and mission goals.

Essential Functions
- Directs and oversees delivery of services provided by health care staff and assists the Director of Nursing in supervising and evaluating the quality of health care performance and services provided by Health Care Department staff.
- Receives and evaluates daily reports regarding each resident's health condition and directs any necessary interventions.
- Ensures the proper supervision of direct care personnel through support and coaching of neighborhood nurse managers, neighborhood nurses, and RCT's.
- Assists in the interviewing, selection, and evaluation process of Health Care Department staff as directed by the Director of Nursing.
- Assumes responsibilities of Director of Nursing in his/her absence.
- Responsible for scheduling health care staff in accordance with Center practice and in compliance with State and Federal staffing requirements. Works with Health Care Staff Scheduler to create and change staffing assignments as needed.
- Approves payroll on a bi-weekly basis for the Health Care Department staff, verifies absences and approves of all overtime hours worked. Reviews and approves/disapproves time-off requests of Health Care employees.
- Ensures that all Health Care staff possesses current licensure and certification.
- Ensures that all nurses and RCT's receive a thorough orientation to the duties and responsibilities which meet the State requirements for duration and demonstration of proficiency in the core areas for each position.
- Participates in the on-call schedule with Nurse managers for Health Care needs or emergencies. In exigent circumstances, works as a Neighborhood Nurse.
- Serves in an on-call capacity for Health Care needs or emergencies.
- Completes performance appraisals for Health Care staff on assigned neighborhoods.as delegated by the Director of Nursing.
- Supervisors Wheelchair Technician and ensures wheelchairs and designated health care equipment are properly cared for and cleaned according to standard.
- Performs work competently, compassionately and with focus on quality care and continuous improvement.
- Obtains resident health insurance prior authorizations when needed, mediates claims processing, and processes purchase orders as required. Facilitate Medicare Pharmacy Part D selection as needed. Reconciles monthly pharmacy bills.
- Together with DON, represents the Health Care Department through membership or participation in internal committees (Quality Assessment and Assurance Committee, QAPI Committee, MIS Committee). Chairs Mealtime Committee.
- As needed, reports allegations of Abuse, Neglect, Exploitation (ANE), conducts internal investigations and follow-up reporting as required by the State of Delaware, Division of Healthcare Quality.
- Participates in overall leadership of The Mary Campbell Center as part of the Senior Management Team. Participates in Manager on Duty on-call rotation. In the event of an emergency, reports to The Center to provide support and provide necessary and sufficient direction and leadership.
- Completes all mandatory in-services and attends staff meetings as required.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
