About the Position

The Office of Senator Mary Washington is seeking a new team member to collaborate with elected leaders, community groups, subject-matter experts, and residents on various issues during the 2025 Legislative Session. 

Requirements

The Legislative Office Assistant offers various administrative and legislative support crucial to Senator Mary Washington's office operations during the 90-day session. Under the direction of the Chief of Staff, the responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:


  • Available to work in person in our Annapolis office from 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday through Friday. (May be needed occasionally for early morning or late evening coverage)
  • A professional and collegial approach, including working well under pressure as a team member.
  • Strong computer skills and demonstrated word-processing skills.
  • Experience in an administrative role with an ability to handle multiple tasks.
  • Good oral communication and writing skills.  The ability to proofread and edit is a plus.
  • Preserve a high level of confidentiality in the communication of information. 

Legislative and Administrative Support Duties 

  • Responsible for maintaining a legislative tracking system (with training), helping to prepare written testimony, scheduling meetings, assisting with special events, and coordinating activities.
  • Deliver legislation, periodicals, and other related correspondence between the MOGR office and the State legislators. 
  • Check daily and record all internal and external communications received from various platforms (mail, telephone, social media) for updates on Committee hearings and voting sessions, topics of interest to the Senator, invitations and meeting requests, and constituent concerns.
  • Maintain the office calendar and assist with scheduling meetings.


Compensation

This temporary contractual position may begin as early as December 9, 2024, and will continue through April 12, 2024. Approximately 36-40 hours/week with an hourly rate ranging from $17.50 to $19.00 an hour.
