Description
The Prince George's County Department of Parks and Recreation, Aquatics and Athletics Facilities Division is currently seeking an Events Assistant Manager to assist in the supervision of the Event Rental Programs at The Prince George's Sports & Learning Complex! This position provides oversight of the daily operation and administration of internal event/special programming as well as both minor / major external event rentals. The selected candidate will be required to provide facility management, programmatic, and supervisory support to a multifunctional facility within the Aquatics and Athletic Facilities Division.
Examples of Important Duties
- Effectively hires, counsels and evaluates employees and meets deadlines for performance evaluations.
- Assist with coordinating seasonal/intermittent schedules as well as training opportunities.
- Approves time cards and verifies work hours and amount of payroll spent on each event.
- Provides mentorship to subordinate staff on employee-related matters (i.e., disciplinary, training, recruitment, and selection, etc.) and responds in a professional and timely manner to employee inquires
- Collaborate with various cross-functional venues within assigned Division to accurately coordinate policies and procedures.
- Works with venue managers and operations department to secure equipment, coordinate set-up for contracted athletic and non-athletic events. As well as assist with corrective actions in ensuring areas are kept in a clean, safe manner.
- Works with Community Programs manager to coordinate multi-cultural special events and workshops including informative aspects within the program content.
- Follows M-NCPPC policies when taking care of all aspects of invoicing, contracts, and payment rendering
- Maintains records of events and a running log of additional fees charged back to clients in order to stay self-sustaining
- Reconciles financial record of each event to supervise revenue and expenses
- Conduct ongoing research and evaluation of rental programming, applying information to develop new initiatives and/or to retain existing clientele.
- Give input and build new marketing and retention strategies, as well as recommend revisions to current procedures to promote facility services and amenities
- Work extended hours, evenings, weekends, and holidays; as an on-site coordinator during events and delegates this task if and when appropriate
- Participate and perform Manager on Duty (MOD) responsibilities on a monthly basis.

Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Parks and Recreation, Recreation Management, Facility Management, Education, Business Administration, Physical Education, Communication, Leisure Services, or any related field.
- One (1) year of responsible professional experience working in a facility related to parks, recreation, leisure services, or area of required specialty (e.g., arts, performing arts, tennis, aquatics, ice rinks).
- An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted, which together total five (5) years.
- Valid driver’s license in accordance with both State and Commission rules and regulations. Driver's license must be unencumbered by restrictions, revocations, suspensions or points that could limit the employee's ability to drive Commission vehicles or perform driving duties required of the position.
- Contingent upon area of assignment, some positions in this class may require valid: (a) operating license (e.g., county pool operator, childcare license) as appropriate; (b) First Aid, CPR, and automated external defibrillator (AED) certifications; or (c) certifications as related to assignment (e.g., Lifeguard Instruction, Fundamentals of Gymnastics).
- Pass Commission medical exam.
